hey guys, im really glad i found out about this site, as i am completely clueless about suits and need to finally get a decent one for wall st interviews.

i guess i'll cut to the chase, basically, i'm 5'9 155, semi-athletic frame, 30' or 31' waist, and i dont even know my other measurements, although i think a tight fit would be preferable to a generic cut. looking for something that is fairly mainstream but maybe somewhat progressive, am willing to pay in the 400-500 range for something higher quality. i'm thinking navy, two-button, but have no idea where to go from there.

where should i start to look for suitable suits? ive been advised something like brooks brothers, but it strikes me as underwhelming. thanks so much guys.

Welcome to the site. Please don't feel ignored. But your question is, in a sense, what a lot of the (non-shoe) discussion on this board comprises, so I suspect a number of people don't know where to start. Have a look around, do some searching. If you're willing to go mail-order, Sierra Trading Post has some great suits on sale right now. If you're determined to buy at retail, you'll get less for your money, but won't have to deal with the hassle of finding a good fit through the mail. You want to look for something that is canvassed, not fused--do a search or read in the wiki about how to tell the difference and why you should care. A navy 2-button single-breasted suit is a classic, and it's a good first choice. As for brand, style, etc.--these are things where you have to find your own level. The brands that get a lot of love around here will come up quickly in any searching you do.

Good luck,
grim.

Generally speaking, navy and charcoal are good interview colors. Brooks is a bit staid but will always be respectable. I'd caution against "progressive" suits for job interviews. The goal is to look correct, not to attract attention with your clothes. STP will have lots of options--Samuelssohn, Southwick, Corneliani, etc.--and they have an amazing return policy. The key is to know your measurements and size.
