Would leather or canvas be the best material for a weekender?

I am choosing between a Vitesse canvas duffle from Waterfield Designs or the leather small travel duffle from Frank Clegg. The former is far cheaper, but money is no object. Which one should I get?

They're both very different bags.

If price is not part of the equation, I wouldn't have any hesitation.

The Frank Clegg bag seems much better in every way.

The Waterfield Designs one is probably fine. It looks functional, but basic. The canvas looks very waxy, the leather straps have no finishing and the nylon straps and metal hardware give off an army surplus vibe. It looks like something you'd bring on a camping trip.

The Frank Clegg bag is in another league entirely. I find it very aesthetically pleasing and it's clearly made with a lot of attention to detail - good leather, hardware, fine stitching, full lining, etc. Good quality leather can age very nicely. I'd be very happy to bring a bag like that anywhere.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
