Would a winter coat kill my tassel loafers? * Picture update *

I have a pair of traditional tassel loafers, Alfred Sargent Harrow, which my cobbler has successfully prepared for rainy days by putting a thin rubber sole on the leather soles. Looks really great.

Now, the question is, can I really wear this kind of shoe during winter, together with a winter coat (it's a traditional brown crombie style coat)? Or would the coat look to heavy combined with these shoes? Do you think tassel loafers are for all seasons except winter? Never mind snow etc. - yes there will be snow here in Scandinavia this winter, but my Harrows are prepared.

With the attached photo (sorry for the bad quality but I think you get an idea) in mind I draw my own conclusion:

I think the coat looks enough light to wear with those loafers. What do you think? If I switch those navy chinos for heavier corduroys (and I certainly will, when it's time to wear this coat, in 1-2 months), and add a knit sweater over my shirt, will the shoes still work?

nice coat too.

Thanks, it's a Tagliatore from Napoli. Made of the softest cotton, not very warm though.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
