Would a buttondown shirt with turnback cuffs work?

Here's a good thread on turnback or "Bond" cuffs: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=66558 Has anyone tried turnback cuffs with a buttondown collar? Does it work? I prefer French cuffs on all my dress shirts, but an e-mail from AK gave me the idea to try out a three-button barrel cuff with a slightly extended cuff length. This is an excuse to have a brace of MOP buttons not hidden by a tie. I just tell myself that I want buttondowns, and those will force me to get non-FC shirts. So, I figure a turnback cuff with three MOP buttons on each cuff will really highlight the buttons, but will it work with a buttondown collar? I'm picturing a casual but fine fabric here, anything from a solid oxford or twill to a check or houndstooth. Wondering out loud whether this photo would look right with a BD collar:

+1. I like the look of a large bd collar, with a nice roll, and french cuffs.

Turnbacks though... I don't know. If you can pull it off, it should be amazing. If not, catastrophic.

What's interesting is the reason people are continually interested in these cuffs. Apparently, James Bond wore them as a means to signal he was a custom kind of guy and unique which has produced a lot of interest in copying.

I don't like buttondowns. The ones I do have are hidden collar buttons. And, I prefer button cuffs to FC. In fact, I recently ordered 2 herringbone shirts and one twill shirt from H&H. They were out of the bd cuffs in herringbone so I had them switch to 3 twill shirts. I really have enough FC shirts and don't need any more. I really don't see them worn by others very often.

You may wish to pass on the epaulets, however ...

I think the cuffs are rather interesting but not with a BD collar. Stick with a wide spread.

You might consider a covered placket down the front. The covered placket has a similar effect as the turn back cuff, hiding the buttons. I think it would be a simple elegant look to wear out on the town or to a party.

But without cocktail cuffs, casualties will be high, particularly amongst the iGents.
