You know...

I concur with the fact that paying $25K for a dessert is really ridiculous...

But then again, most people think it's ridiculous for me to drop $150/person at Charlie Palmer Steak and Craftsteak or $300/person at Joel Rubochon... Many would even scoff at the idea of buying a $6K Kiton or Brioni suit or even a $2K OTR designer suit when others could barely afford clothes at Walmart...

I'm just sayin'...

You guys don't seem to get it. Forget the moral judgements. They don't care about actually selling these ridiculous desserts, it's just a marketing stunt - and a somewhat clever one at that - to be included in the Guiness book and use that for promos...

Exactly... Putting that dessert together cost them way less than a real publicity campaign would have. And their publicity would not have been on Drudge, discussed on ESPN radio, etc.

It's a cheap stunt that deserves no attention. The ******* owner is too cheap to pay for the proper marketing of his restaurant, and the restaurant makes too ****** a food to attract customers by its own reputation.

China could make this dessert faster, tastier and a lot cheaper.
Forget that thousand dollar french truffle crap. USA USA USA!

im not really understanding this...

the spoon comes with 3 carats of diamonds that you can take home.

there is a gold and 1 carat diamond bracelet you keep.

basically, it is a reasonably or overpriced 2-piece jewelry for $25,000 with a little ice cream smeared on it.

if you look at it as 'dessert' , then yes, this is ridiculous.

The fact that it is available to be bought is ridiculous. You could sell moldy bread for $1 Trillion.

There is a sushi restaurant in town that sells a $1k or $10k sushi roll, I can't remember which price it was. But it basically comes topped with a perfect 1 or 2 carat diamond. I don't think anyone has bought it yet, but I could be wrong.

Actually there are many people even outside of NY that know Serendipity.

I'd buy it if I could afford it.

I wonder if you can actually taste the edible gold in it?

I'd buy it, too. If I were rich enough to buy something like that, I'd be either wiping ****** with $100 bills or pay someone to do it.
