I'm not including France because the French team has not as a whole made it part of their game plan to dive every chance they get. Henry may have dived twice over the course of the tourney, but I swear to god Cristiano Ronaldo dives 3+ times a match. And he's only one of about nine other players on Portugal with a diving problem. It is endemic.

Which games did Henry dive in?

Was one of them against Portugal? Sometimes you get tired of seeing the other team benefit from cheating against you so often that you decide to give it a shot. This is why not carding for diving is bad, it lowers the overall tone of the game.

Yes I was referring to he one against Portugal and the one against Spain involving Puyol.Puyol got booked and France scored from the resulting free kick.

It looks like florent malouda was going to the goal and he was thrown out of balance. Probably need to see this again.

It jusy annoys me that many teams are getting criticized for diving when France are the only team to profit from it.Obviously it will be different over there but here in England there is no dispute,Henry dived twice and everyone in the media agrees.
P.S. The media love Henry over here so they have no axe to grind!

If we compare two players like Henry and C. Ronaldo, it's not just this WC we need to look at.

Henry is not generally a diver. He is a good honest player. Watch international and league matches.

    C. Ronaldo dives in any game he is in. From day one he has taken dives. It hasn't changed. And he has such promise to be a brilliant player. But he will never be a good player in my mind because he dives sooooo much.

Did Malouda dive? Sort of looks like it, but then again, for anyone who has played (any sport really), when you are running full speed, it doesn't take much to make you fall.

And as for Italy's goal, I'd say there was no foul whatsoever. Sure he was up higher than Thuram, but not fouling.

Right now I'm thinking Italy will pull this out. I bet Del Piero will be on shortly and will add a big spark.

Portugal have profited pleny from it.

Why not criticize France for it (more)? Probably because they just aren't really divers. It is rare.

How about we start bitching about Argentina and that Maradona clearly punched the ball into the goal against England? Maradona is a hero and a legend to many many people, but he cheated. Horribly. So Henry embellishes how badly he was hit--at least he was hit.

If no other teams had profited from diving, it wouldn't happen. What diving does is give you an opportunity to score when your technique and skill is insufficient to proceed. Is it France's fault that they have capitalized on their one or two moments of selective cheating? Is it Portugal's fault that their 20 dives a game amounted to nothing? Who is the "loser" in this situation? You sound like you have an axe to grind.

You are missing the point guys.It is well documented that referees research every game at this level(I know sometimes it doesnt look like it)and know player x dives or player y plays it by the book or player z is easy to wind up etc...Therefore players like Ronaldo are like the 'boy who cried wolf ' and sometimes dont get decisions that are genuine because of the theatrics. So for Henry who says diving is deplorable to come and do it on the biggest stage and profit makes me sick!

Why would I? And while we are on the subject,I am a season ticket holder at Utd and one of my heroes is Ruud(and one of yours I think)who happens to be one of the biggest divers ever to play the game.Which I hate him for because it embarrases me.

Henri needs to learn to shoot with his left foot. Jeez.

BTW, Portugal is the #1 diving team. Followed by a close tie between Italy and Brazil. France is somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Ref doesn't call a clear penalty in the box b/c he is out of position. This game is being poorly officiated.

We should throw Trezeguet in for the overtime. The italians are exhausted.

So the US is still the only team to put enough pressure on Italy to get the ball in the net without the ref calling a penalty. If Italy wins, does that make the US the second best team in this World Cup? [IMG]
