Wow - I had completely forgotten that U.S. was playing today. I guess we lost.

Now I can focus back on the important things in sports, the NBA draft and NFL training camps [IMG]

Brazil won 4-1 against Japan (anyone surprised?).

Am I the only one that thinks the finals might be Argentina vs. Brazil?

    Jon.

I want to see Ghana versus Australia in the finals!

i only saw the second half, and then the highlights.

the penalty awarded to ghana was very iffy in my book. u.s. had lots of chances but made a ton of mistakes. they certainly weren't outplayed.

i think their best player is onyekwu (sp?). i'd like to see him on a good team.

after the game, i switched to abc to see their commentary. it was interesting to see julie fowdy and wynalda essentialy put all the blame on the coach. i agree. he's a good coach, but he couldn't handle the pressure of this tournament. his decisions were uncharacteristic of him. and he dresses like some blockbuster video assistant manager. (he also walks like a dork and has a dumb look on his face.)

also, julie fowdy was defending the inclusion of mcbride in the line-up by saying he's good on set pieces and in the air. that is not a great vote of confidence.

i'm glad it was reyna who gave away the first goal. i don't like him or the way he shouts at his teammates.

the u.s will do much better next time. contrary to popular opinion, i think they should hire another american as coach, but someone who will put in all the young guys, based on his own evaluations, rather than the player's reputation.

    if not, hire hiddink.

What's the NBA again? Isn't that a high school homecoming or something?

Yeah I think Graham Poll will have some very tough questions to answer. Some really dubious decisions (2 obvious penalties not given to Australia, Kewell slightly offside with the equalizing goal too, plus the 'forgetting I already carded him' thing) but...anyhow...more importantly...WOW. Australia rock [IMG] First time into the World Cup finals in 32 years, on paper we should be the easybeats, and now into the round of 16. Good for them. Of course now we have to play Italy, which certainly should end the fairytale, but I guess you never know your luck...

I think Australia have been fantastic and IMHO were very unlucky against the mighty Brazil.

Im going to go ahead and say i believe we will beat Italy. We have been playing very well, i think we out-played Brazil, but were unlucky not to do it where it counts. If they approach the game against the Italians with a nothing to lose approach, surely they can come out on top.

    Oh, please do tell.
Are you aware of what occurred in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and England? If not, please google Maradona "Hand of God". It doesn't get much more unsporting than that.

No, no...that was the referee's call. It happen to hit Maradona's hand and then it went in.

There is rumore that Klinsman will leave Germany no matter the result and that the USSF is already talking with him. He does live in SoCal and his wife is American.

Any other candidates? Someone over on Foxsportsworld.com mentioned Martin O'Neill? He says he's looking to get back into it after a year off with his sick wife.

    How about Alan Shearer?
