    Meh.
    All the doom and gloom.
Go out to lunch; see how it goes.
If she's never going to be your direct-report, have fun.

    +1.

That's how it started for Mrs. Thomas and myself.

A word of caution, though: Everyone will know what you're doing. Be honorable in your actions, or it will likely come back to bite you.

ask yourself the reverse of the situation - lets say you get together and things work out for awhile, but then things don't, is gone bad, then what? - the hard feelings , the looks, the gossip, the bullshit, its never worth it - been there done that, do yourself a favor and move on. I know its easier said than done, but having this have a happy ending is against the odds.

Very true. I'm not even really involved with this woman from work, and my boss already thinks we are hooking up.

    Your boss is simply jealous.
Use this to your advantage. Goad him (or her) with ribald tales of your extracurricular activities.

What did you steal? or rather, fail at stealing...[IMG] I think as long as the OP is respectful of the co-worker, such as treating her to a nice dinner and calls her back, then I think it's ok. I think it's especially helpful that they don't work in the same building.

You should definitely ask her out. And make it clear that her future with the company depends on her putting out. When she reports it to the EEOC make a new post asking our resident lawyers for advice.
