Hey guys,

About to purchase a jacket which has working buttons; the only issue is I need to take some length off the sleeves. I can take maybe an inch back and then the buttons will be right up on the edge; but I think I might even want to take a bit more back. Is there anyway to do this without ruining the working buttons? Had my eye on this jacket for a while so don't reccomend to get a different one please.

Thanksm,
dave

You have to be careful when you do this because it screws up the armhole and can cause a whole new host of problems...sorry to rain on your parade, but I wouldn't take it from anywhere but the cuff...

If it's the honest opinion you want, then DO NOT buy the jacket.

Alternatively, you can buy the jacket, shortened the sleeve a little and merely look like all the slobs out there with their sleeves too long.

I'd rather ruin working buttons than have sleeves that are too long.

Taking it up from the sleevehead is doable. I've had it done. Just use a good tailor.

I would say go for it if you really want the jacket. My tailor does a great job of shortening the sleeves from the shoulders. He charges 80 dollars for the sleeves that way, but if you get a good price and really want the jacket, just do it. I have a jacket now being done like that and I am confident that it will be well worth it. I got the jacket on a clearance rack for 25.00, so even with the sleeve length I still don't have that much in the jacket.
