Work from Home suggestions

Recently my Father has taken ill. It has taken a huge strain on my mother and she has no help. In the past 6 months, her brothers and sisters have all moved to different locations, whereas before they lived within 10 minutes driving time of each other. My brother is a newlywed and works insane hours whilst going to school.

I live 2 hours away, work and go to school. She really needs help with money. Unfortunately, I live paycheck to paycheck and have nothing I can send back. Does anyone know of any work that can be done from home that she can do in order to keep the bills paid? As it is things have been very difficult. I noticed several members on here work from home. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

This isnt a tip on working at home so you might want to stop reading, but your parents seem to be in really bad straits. Why are your mothers brothers and sisters not helping out? I would think anyone who wasnt a college kid could afford to fork over a few hundred bucks a month. How about a reverse mortgage? They are almost always a really bad idea but you gotta do what you gotta do.

She's done a reverse mortgage twice now; this would put her further in debt to the point she can't afford to make any payments on it.

My Aunts and Uncles all live on fixed incomes, and two of them are on unemployment with disability. As such, there is no "extra" money for them personally, let alone any to send to help with my mother. It's a very difficult situation.

Also, is their house large enough that taking in a boarder might be a possibility?

Various managerial positions at Auto dealerships in the DMV department. Other management positions within family businesses (now defunct because my Aunt and Uncle are retired). She's looking into providing DMV registrations, etc. but she doesn't have the time required for such a project.

The house is quite small and taking in a boarder would not be an option; to say nothing of the fact it would be a very stressful living situation to be living in a house where a man is dying.

I didn't realize that your father's illness was so serious -- I'm sorry to hear that.

No specific ideas spring to mind, but I'd suggest you encourage her to reach out to as many people in her circle of friends and acquaintances as possible. Faced with difficult and emotionally stressful personal situations like this, most people naturally withdraw and minimize contact with all but their very closest friends and family. But making an effort to maintain communication with a wider circle of acquaintances often produces ideas, resources and support that might not have had the opportunity to surface otherwise.
