Huh, never even knew they had a home brand.
I believe it's the same company as Pottery Barn. Williams Sonoma is their high end brand. So, WS, Pottery Barn, West Elm has the same thing going on as Banana Republic, GAP, Old Navy.
I think Williams Sonoma Home is well-made, nice stuff. I have a couch from them too.
Thanks for the replies. I dug a little deeper. Cashmere is out. I'd like to keep this under $100. Can anyone compare or say anything about Alpaca, Scottish wool, Merino, Virgin, Mohair, etc? Is Scottish wool worth the premium over Alpaca wool? Restoration Hardware's Chenille Throw is a ripoff $80 for 30% rayon/70% poly ($5 at Walmart) http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories You can get a basic acrylic Chenille starting at $20 100% acrylic chenille yarn http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=che...=p3286.c0.m359 Getting into wool... Alpaca Wool throw are around $50-$100 Some of them are poly/synth blends http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=alp...l+throw&_rdc=1 Johnston's of Elgin is about $85 100% Scottish Wool (might be a little itchy, based on reviews) http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,...w-Blanket.html Woolrich is also overpriced. The $70-$110 throws are poly/acrylic (ripoff) The $140 throws are 100% wool (overpriced) http://www.woolrich.com/woolrich/bro...FYHc4Aod5z0jfA Right now, it seems Johnston's of Elgin is the best in price/performance. Or, I am leaning towards spending $100 for a 100% virgin wool throw, which might be softer.
Overstock seems to have low prices, esp. on the cheap poly/acrylic segment http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden...html?count=120
Check these two out from RL Home for $100 each http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/i...entPage=family http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/i...entPage=family
The 100% wool one is tiny.
Both can be had for 1/2 that price on Ebay.
I'd go with the 100% wool RL or the alpaca from ebay
You're overthinking it.
Just go to costco.com and get a 4-, 6-, or 8-lambskin rug (depending on the size of sofa). They go perfectly with black or dark brown leather furniture.
The key with the Johnstons stuff is to wait for the STP sale. t will get marked down in price and then a coupon on top.
Got a really nice cashmere blend for $60.
The wool is pretty good stuff too. GF used to steal them all the time.
Where do you get a coupon for SierraTP ?
second the elgin from STP...I bought one and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it is.
That said, I was in iceland back in september and I saw this blanket, and purchased it instantly b/c the wool and colors were so nice. it is one of my best purchases ever...not an endorsement I throw around lightly:
Hudsons Bay Company wool blanket
This. The "point blanket" as it is known, is outright iconic.
I believe you can get them at Woolrich in the US
Wow, the Hudson Bay (queen) is 8lbs.
That's about 2-4x heavier than the others.
I think I might spring for this b/c of its size.
Most throws are in the 50x60 range, which I find too small.
Legs stick out. I think I prefer a large blanket.
Best price is on Ebay for about $300

Just pulled the trigger on the Hudson Bay for $300.
Happy winter ...
