I'm looking at getting a new suit for my wife as a gift... does anybody know of a good place in London to buy a women's suit? RTW, MTM, and bespoke recommendations are all appreciated.

I myself had the same question a while back, didn't get much usefull myself. Or rather, I didn't get much of use TO ME, because I was looking for female businesswear. If you're looking for a countrysuit, Cordings is a good bet. Otherwise, I don't know.

Hi Kraftar, do you know your wife's size? http://www.asos.com/countryid/1/Wome...Y7uHOAU0pH_Q0w

Asos has trendy, classy, sophisticated pieces for women. I guess if you're on the ancient side... and she is looking for a more expensive piece than Asos wont be it. Also depends body shape. Age. Women look best in wide leg trousers. Pencil skirts are always classic. Not sure why any guy would be a suit for their wife. That is different. I heard guys buying dresses but suits. That is new..

She just received a promotion at work, she could use a nice suit, and her birthday is coming up. Plus, it is different...

Good for you. I bought my wife a bespoke suit a few years back from John Pearse in Soho. He did a pretty good job - he's quite unconventional though so may not be to your wife's taste.

Kratar, I think it is great that you are being different and so supportive of your wife. Unlike men, women love the black suit it is the equivalent of the LBD but for work wear. Without being rude do you know what your budget is? I can post pictures of what might look nice if you want. Also is she petite average height or tall.

Thanks kohelet. For this suit I'm probably looking around £500 to £1,000 but could go higher for a nice bespoke. One thing I'm not sure of is if she would care about the difference b/w a good MTM suit vs a much better bespoke offering... so my thinking is to go for something mid-range and see how she likes the suit and the process. On the other hand, part of me thinks that if I'm going to do it, then I should go all in.

As for my wife, she's around 5'8" to 5'9" and is more of an hourglass shape.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
