Hi gents and ladies! Forgive my lack of knowledge here or starting a thread that's been posted before. I'm on the hunt for classy and durable shoes with negligant slip. Tired of being forced fed crap shoes in regular retail stores.

Let me know your particular model recommendations with the following criteria:

  1. Slippers or penny loafers that are Goodyear/Veldtschoen welted with a cordovan shell, and ridgeway sole (I hear this sole is a happy medium).
  2. Waterproof dress ankle boots with same criteria but the sole and material can change. Chromexcel is intriguing.
  3. Black or Chocolate Brown colors with little to no embellishments aside from a small bow, etc.
  4. Possible brands: Cheaneys, Alden, Yanko, Carmina, Andres Sendra, Carlos Santos, Rozsnyai, Vass, Meccreilo, Crockett & Jones, Alfred Sargent, Gaziano & Girling, Edward Green, and John Lobb.
  5. Will size down to men's if need be.
  6. Amazing customer service! I will cross off any stores or brands with bad service, so please tell me your experiences.

All advice welcomed!

This board does not concern itself with ladies' apparel. Its something about its title with which descriptor you might be unfamiliar.

Ignore the rudeness from the above poster. GY welting is absent in the world of womens shoes, other than womens shoes from MENS MANUFACTURERS.

A few questions though -
  1. Why a steel shank? Why not wood or leather? This eliminates some of the manufacturers on your list.
  2. What is the rationale behind the sole? I like the standard dainite and leather for sleekness
  3. Do the loafers have to be shell? Womens model penny loafers AND shell are really driving you down the MTO road.

Yes, however I did not see a "Classic Women's Wear" category. If I missed such a category, please point me in that direction sir.

I like the idea of versatility and optimal utility but you're absolutely right. I will probably ultimately go with a rubber sole for only the boots and without regard to the type of shank.

I'm not much of a shoe expert, but as a non-millionaire I have gone with Allen Edmonds. They have a lot of retail locations, many different widths, and good service in my experience. It's probably worth a trip if there is a store nearby, since you might be able to find a good fit in the store.

The dear lady was seeking assistance on makes etc, so whilst the structure of shoes is of interest it does not answer the question posed. "Hi gents and ladies!" seems to me that the title of this Web board has passed her by.

Carmina's women's RTW range is probably the closest you're going to get to what you're looking for off the peg, but as is the case with most manufacturers, they offer shoes on different lasts (i.e., shapes). You will have to find the last that fits your foot best. We can't tell you which lasts will avoid heel slip for you; you will simply have to try them on and find the right one for you. For women's RTW, Carmina usually lists the last under the description tab (e.g., "Lluch 70" or "Drac 20").

Alternatively, most of the makers you mention offer MTM / MTO services and/or bespoke services where you can specify measurements and style and get something more / fully custom (and therefore theoretically better fitting / styled than what you would find off the peg), though that will add cost to the shoes.

Hope that helps.

Anyone found the perfect shoe? I feel like we all need 2-3 with us at all time. Something quiet and comfortable for the hours we spend on our feet. Something industrial but not necessarily a boot. And some kind of boot. Curious is what your choices have been. What’s your go to?
