Got the 1000 wolverines in Dublin horween leather Rust today. How does one go about polishing these? I normally just apply conditioner/cleaner and then use Allen Edmonds shoe polish which is a combination cream/wax paste for all my other calf skin shoes. I see various posts here about applying oils and other things I'm not use to normally doing with my other calf skins. What would your recommendations be for these be?

Just follow this or do I need to do something different for the dublin leathers?

You don't need to do anything with dublin, as it's waxy leather. The AE store in Chicago on Michigan Ave. only recommended I use Saddle-Soap on my AE McTavish (natural dublin).

I'd just wear them and watch a natural patina develop.

    That said...

Cross-post from the AE thread, this is what I did to mine:

    1. Went over the whole boot with Kiwi-black
    2. Went over the toe with some Kiwi-black and a lot of Kiwi-neutral as I prefer a little more shine to my footwear
    3. Black sharpied the exposed leather edges
    4. Swapped out the flat laces

Thanks mario! Wow really? No polis h just lotion and conditioner!? I think these will become my go to shoe then. I'll just condition them with my AE cleaner/conditioner then. I prefer a slight shine too. Can I use the AE neutral premium polish on it for a shine then?

Dublin leather requires regular conditioning just like CXL, predator, inferno and shell. What you use is dependent on use but you better be using something. Failure to do so results in dry leather or worse dry rot.

I dropped by my local cobbler to enquirer about getting a half sole added to my 1,000M boots. I want a sole similar to the RW GT commando half sole on the leather full sole. The cobbler told me he could remove the leather sole and replace it with a full Vibram sole, but could not stitch a half sole on and gluing would come off in a week or two. I didn't have time to discuss it with him in any depth, though I don't understand why he couldn't securely add a half sole.

Has someone here added a commando GT-style half sole? Pics I could show him would be great, too! Thanks.

Justin, Vibram makes a lugged commando style half sole and having it done would be no different than putting on the Raptor style. I'm not sure why your cobbler says it'll fall off in a couple of weeks since mine are still on 2 years down the road. Getting worn out yeah, but falling off no.

Thanks for the fast reply Crane! I think I'll take them elsewhere for the job.

None, CXL doesn't like wax all that much. Scuffs come out by rubbing them with your finger and a little boot oil. If I had to touch a spot up with color I would use a small amount of creme wax. In the 3 plus years of beating up my brown 1Ks all I've done was clean them, oil them and snoseal them once in a while. I posted plenty of pics showing before and after results.

These are not dress shoes and are not cared for in the same way. With that said Mario has gotten his boots to really shine up well. If I remember right his method involves a boatload of water brushing and not much else.

Oil is your primary conditioner. LP is your weather proofer though it does condition as well.

The cobbler I went to also suggested that the lug soles would add more weight to what's already a pretty heavy boot, so I went with a thinner one that should still help with slippage on ice.

1Ks are light boots. A full Vibram resole wouldn't add much weight at all. I didn't do it because of aesthetics.

If you scroll through the images on this thread, you would see plenty of W1K boots fitted with vibram half sole.

I had mine done 2 months ago and they are still going strong.
