those krause look great. i wonder why the price is hiked so much?
I think the tanning process is much more involved, almost like cordovan leather. I'm trying to get enough funds to buy a pair.
BTW - has any one delt with this guy on E-Bay? Real deal?
He sent me a pic of them compared to the rusts:
Which one do you think I should get for my only pair of boots? Would be worn with jeans, cords, maybe chinos.
I agree. CXL creases way too boldly (deep and wide) for me. I sold a pair of cxl Aldens because of this.
I would go for the Krause - For sure.
Yes, it is just an ugly leather IMHO...
Care to explain why?
From what I have seen and read about the Krause and the Dublin leather it is made with I think it would easily go from casual to semi-dress. For me CXL leather is only good for casual, or as a simple working boot. I think the Krause would offer a wider range of use.
The problem I have is that the color is too red, I don't think it would go with jeans and such as well as the brown. Also, the black sole is kinda weird looking. I agree with the leather being nicer though.
I disagree. The oxblood with black sole is a big win. I'm tempted to get a pair of these, as they look great.
Ugly, no. But I do agree, creases WAY too easily.
Agreed! I pulled the trigger on the E-Bay ones.
Like I said earlier, it is a matter of preference, there is some nice leather varation/color as CXL ages. I really like the US made 1000 mile series, I personally like the style of the boot way more than the Beckmans. I hope they do more styles in the Dublin leather.
Please post pics when you get them.
Echo, nice pick up Seer. I feel #8 shell, burgundy, merlot etc. is one of the most versatile colors out there. If it is too red the trick used on #8 shell of 2 coats black to 1 of red polish should add a nice look over time IMO.
Also agree on the CXL leather. The only CXL I have is the AE Bayfield and one pair of CXL in a life is enough for me. I fail to find the beauty of it the way it scuffs so easily. Not even in the same league as my Russell Grand Slam Sheep Hunters, Bean Cresta Hikers, Meindl Perfekt hikers and hunters, etc. After just a couple of hours in the North Woods busting brush grouse hunting:
With some work they do clean up but I don't want to HAVE to work at it all the time. The Beckman and 1K are two different animals in my mind. I wore the Wolverine 744's to the RW store on Saturday to get fitted and order my Beckman's. Both the SA and sales manager wanted to know more about them, they were impressed with them.
Want to get the Vibram Raptor half soles added but they are so damn comfortable I don't want to send them off and be without them. And I have a lot of boots but these have to be one of if not the most comfortable that I own.
