They are def not cordovan. Color #8 typically refers to shell; however, their not.
I was referring to the ebay listing that says "cordovan."
It is not uncommon for reddish colored or burgundy calfskin to be called "cordovan."
I saw that too. A bit misleading
I remember seeing a poster either on this thread or in the 721 thread, in which Wolverine also called it Cordovan #8. I'm 100% sure that it is not shell cordovan, but CXL in burgundy. Let me see if I can dig that up.
EDIT: found it:
That pic is after one weekend of drunkeness.
Even though there not shell, they still look fantastic.
I imagine anyone doing their research would conclude that it is too good to be true to get a pair of said boots in shell for $220.
I am more concerned about the seller's rating and feedbacks.
I did ask him if they were seconds or not, and the response was:
"No. Brand new direct from the factory".
They now cost $244.

Next to my RW Beckman that has been worn 4-5 times and broken in. Color wise: RW is black cherry while the W1K is brown.
RW is 9.5 while the W1K is 9. My normal sizing is 10.
Since broken in, the RW is extremely comfortable, yet the W1K (yet to be worn for extended period) appears to be more comfortable right out of the box.
The leather of the W1K is thicker and more supple than the RW. The RW is more rugged and probably can deal with harsher condition.
Both beautiful boots.
Don't plan on wearing either in snowy weather; for that, I have my Sorel and Timberland.
Honestly, if Wolverine can use the same leather and make a LWB priced at the $300-$350 range, they can give Alden and AE a run for the money.
Great choice, I think both are wonderful boots.
I went with a pair of Rust in the 1000 mile, and 1 pair Black Cherry and 1 pair Black for the RW Beckmans. Same size for all three pairs.
hey your guys I have a size problem here..
My RW beakman black and w1k brown(same as #1871) are 8D , but my RW 8138 is 7.5D.
Now I wish to buy a pair of w1k stockton , and Im confusing about the size....7.5 or 8?
About the above post.. In the Wolverine catalog , they list "no.8 cordovan" as a color. Its really weird, because cordovan is made in oxblood, cherry, green, brown.. Its a little deceiving in the description .
Does treating with snoseal or obenauf's LP affect how breathable boots are?
Granted that they're not going to breathe like sneakers to begin with, if they're going to spend most of the time indoors, I'm wondering if this is a concern for those of us not likely to wear them to slog through puddles and whatnot on a regular basis. I know if I wear my waterproof hiking boots indoors my feet sweat something fierce.
