Nonsense. Show me a high end manufacturer who sells seconds with legitimate structural defects. I've purchased multiple seconds and never had such an issue. Sure, there's always a scratch, cut, or similar, but I sure as hell haven't had any of them literally fall apart at the seams after ten wears. Perhaps you haven't purcahsed seconds before - seconds have visual issues, not full on structural issues.

I'm not asking them to fix something that happened after, say, the events your boots have been through. I do, however, think a company should stand behind their product for things that are clearly and unquestionably structural manufacturing defects. I've had, and know others who have had, structural defects with AE seconds and AE has agreed to replace the shoe. Or, they should amend their seconds policy and not sell pieces of shit that they knew were going to fall apart.

At the end of the day, we're talking about a pair of boots that, even at seconds pricing, cost $609. I'm not complaining that some glued-together Kenneth Cole loafers didn't last ten years. I'm complaining that handmade boots that are sold as the highest quality and cost more than most peoples' car payments fell apart after ten or twelve wears to places like my office and Target and the grocery store. If you think that's unreasonable, you're certainly not anybody I'd ever want to do business with.

It's fine. I'll get them fixed, sell them, and sure as hell never purchase a pair of Wolverines again.

$609 for seconds...? That's certainly not the norm, not to mention they don't actually sell seconds. So what you bought was a defective boot. it's been asked a few time, where did you buy this from?

You definitely got ripped off. Where did you buy them?

Wolverine doesn't sell seconds directly. Allen Edmonds made the 721 and 744 for Wolverine, and AE does sell seconds (along with seconds of their own product line) but AE sell them at $399. I have seen some 744 "seconds" on eBay that have some serious cut on the upper leather, some with holes and some even have the tongue cut into two pieces. These definitely don't meet even the standard seconds, and they got sold on eBay for obvious reason. They are so bad that AE rejected them to even sell them as seconds.

Hi yes, I'd like a pair of cordovan 1000 mile boots, and even though they're labeled seconds, I want them to be flawless...

You paid a lot less for seconds, and got what you paid for. No refunds or warranty.

So... the eBay seller elite_hero also has the mysterious captoe 1000 mile boot (posted few pages ago) on sale:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wolverine-W...27?pt=US_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item416e0908ff

There isn't much info to the boots except a photo. Given how glossy it looks, I doubt it is CXL. I bought a pair of yet-to-be-released #8 CXL plain toe 1000 mile boot from him so I know the stuff he sells is authentic. But I also know that he doesn't reply to email.... so I can't get more info from him.

As posted earlier on, he seems to be also selling the 721 for $400. But I doubt that was the 721, because of the price and the quantity that he has available for sale. Is it possible that there is a CXL version of the 721 boot (same style, but made with CXL leather) coming?

I had no problems with him replying to a question asked to him through ebay. It looks like the same boot, with the storm welt, that was in the recent picture posted. I thought it looked like some sort of buffalo leather or something you might get on some white's boots, but I don't really know.

If your other boots were about $200, then I bet the 721 is legit, but with the 14 day return policy there isn't a whole lot to lose, except a few bucks in shipping.

Maybe you should buy both of them and let us know the details [IMG]. Also his prices went up on the #8 cxl boots about $20/day until they were full price.

I should have been more clear, Wolverine doesn't sell seconds of the 1000 mile boots. I wasn't aware AE was selling off 2nds of them, makes sense since they sell 2nds of everything else.
Though checking 2nds out before wearing them has to happen or you end up stuck in a terrible situation like this. This is why I stay away from almost all 2nds, some clothing from certain brands is fine but shoes make me nervous.
Good luck getting them fixed Dave, hopefully they don't have to take the sole off to properly restitch them.

I went to try on the 1000 mile's and Red Wing Beckman's today. From my initial impressions, the 1000 mile's looks a lot better in person than in pictures, and aesthetically looks better than the Beckman in my opinion. The Beckman were noticeably heavy and I thought the laces were of poor quality because even though its waxed, it was rather difficult to lace up the shoe. When compared to the 1000 mile's, the 1000 mile had a nicer looking shoe lace, and I thought the overall shoe was higher in quality than the Beckman.Last, but not least, I found the 1000 mile to be more comfortable for my wide feet.

The thing about the Beckman is that they take about 7 wears to break in. Once they do, they are very comfy, etc. Also, they have a commando type sole with tread, unlike the 1000 Mile which has a flat leather sole. The Beckman to me is more rugged and useful, although the 1000 Mile looks more sleek and perhaps a bit dressier:

I decided to do something a bit different. I'm going to pick up a few pairs of 1Ks from time to time and throw them on the back shelf. So with that in mind this is what I got sitting around. I have 3 pairs of the original 1Ks in rust size 9.5, 10, and 10.5 in D width. Everyone here is familiar with how this all works and the way we deal so without further ado pick up the phone and call 573-254-3311 or email us at cranescountrystore@gmail.com. If you email we'll send you a PP invoice, if you call we'll run your card and ship them out.

Oh and these aren't seconds and they're taking up shelf space so I want them gone yesterday. LOL!

If this goes well I'll pick something else and do it again.....

Gah, if only you'd kept the sizes rolling up to an 11.5...

Suppose I should also ask, for future reference, but do you ship internationally at all (London, UK)?

Well sizes aren't a problem and yes we ship everywhere. Send Dave an email and tell him what you're looking for.

It's a very dangerous thing to let me around an ordering screen....

Wednesday of next week I'll have 3 pairs of brown original 1Ks in size 9, 9.5 and 10 in D width.

Guess what? I don't want to put them on the shelf in the back room at all. First come first served and remember we don't do seconds and yeah the price is right....

Funny you said you just bought Beckmans and 1000 miles. So did I.

I don't see the point in comparing the two as they are both very different boots as xdawes said. The Beckman is definitely very rugged and has a tough rubber sole. It takes a good while to work them in and they get more comfortable when they do. The laces I agree are very waxy and takes a while to get the boot on and off but it's part of the territory I suppose. The 1000 miles are a bit more comfortable out of the box and the sole gives it a bit more flexibility. The laces I agree are better however.

Both incredible boots and I am happy for our purchases.
