Just got these in the mail today from Needsupply:

The 744 is size 11. It's about the same size as my 10D Alden Barrie last PTBs. For color comparison, note the Aldens are a Horween Chromexcel brown, which is the same leather used for Context's Roy boot (which I have and love - http://www.contextclothing.com/item.php?id=1524 - but I digress). The 744's Horween No. 449 cordovan is a deeper, darker brown:

    Bit of a Horween stamp:

    "543/1000"

Another comparison shot with the Alden Barrie last PTBs I happened to be wearing today - despite being so similar in size (at least to the eye) the 744 provides a slightly roomier fit in the toe box. I also noticed the heel area of the 744 is less firm:

They feel great - soft, pliable & comfortable out of the box. This is my fifth pair of boots (the others are Aldens - two 10D Barrie, one 10D Trubalance and one 10.5D Plaza) and so far I'm pleased with the fit of the Wolverine 744:

Thanks - I forgot to mention the sole looks and feels like it's been treated and is quite pliable, which adds to the comfortable feel when you initially put them on.

Regarding sizing, Leffot said the 744s fit TTS. I am an 11C and, sure enough, the size 11 fit perfectly.

Sounds an awfull like the 1000 mile boot.

I actually strongly considered getting these but decided to get a pair of Alden cordovan boots instead.

I already had the 1000 mile boot and a pair of Indys and I figured it was time to get some Alden shell boots next.

But I have to tell you, these certainly were a contender.

My 744s are amazing. The fit is fantastic. I love the soft heel leather. The entire shoe is very flexible, which is a nice change of pace from Alden and much more comfortable for long wear and walking. The color is beautiful and it's some of the best cordovan I've seen.

I'm comparing to Alden Barrie cordovan boots - not the Indy. The Indy is much cheaper, but much more casual, too. I've worn my boots to the office without anyone noticing they're essentially work boots.

I ordered from Epaulet but followed the Leffot logic with sizing, which is to order TTS. Epaulet said to size down half a size.

Sadly, I think it is just half a size too big (8) but that's the smallest Epaulet has. It's still comfy so I think I can take it. Anyway, enjoy the pics.

    Great looking boots, Congrats.

I wondered about that, it did seem like sizing guidance was different depending on which website you check.

With the regular boot most sites if they say anything they would advise to size down by 1/2.

    1st post, long time lurker.

Was lucky enough to pick up a brand new unworn 721 recently, i am a 10.5 D in most allen edmond shoes and pretty much everything else for that matter too. I bought a 10 based on the 1/2 size smaller and they fit perfect. My left foot is generally slightly wider than my right so as my feet swell sometimes it puts pressure on my ring toe but even in a 10 and at various parts of the day i didn't feel any pressure.

    Hope that helps.

I'm still waiting on mine to arrive....but in the meantime....

How do you gentlemen recommend I go about water-proofing (or improving its water resistance, if not totally water-proof)?

I also got Cordovan cream along with it, which I assume will help somewhat. Are any of you guys using any wax or Snoseal or other product to "winterize" these boots?

Has anybody gone ahead and had a lugged sole or half-sole installed? I know I eventually will but I'll probably let the stock sole get worn in a bit first.

    Thanks for the input!

Search for Wolverine 721 LTD. About post 30 is your answer. The monster 1K review thread is another source.

Ah yes, I had that page open elsewhere....good read.

I'm still waiting on my 744s but my Krause boots arrived yesterday...Is there much of a difference between how one treats Chromexel versus how one treats Cordovan? I understand that both of these contain more oils than standard leathers so they are naturally more weather resistant than regular calf leather.

Would you use the same treatment on your 721s as you would for Chromexel boots?

    Thanks!

Yes, in my tutorial on snosealing the boots you see are my 721s. The leathers are different and shell requires treatment less frequently than CXL. Just remember it still needs to be treated.

Looking to pull the trigger on the 744's but am confused about sizing :(

Can't figure out if they run .5 size large (like regular cow 1000 mile boots) or to go TTS. Everyone is saying something differerent. Blast it!

Same size as the regular 1K line.

Uh Oh I'll add to the confusion then. I am a 10D in AE 1 and 5 last, and most AE lasts except the rough collection which all 3 are a 9.5D. My 744 is a 10D and fits perfectly but for the Krause I went down to a 9.5D which fits identical to the 744. My understanding is that the Krause fits like the original 1K which I do not own (yet). By fitting perfectly I am talking wearing a lightweight or mid weight Smart Wool hiking sock with them.

Will post later in the 1k thread but 744 with some wear compared to other brown shell-

left to right: AE Dundee in dark brown shell, 744, C&J for RL Marlow in cigar shell, 744, AE Dalton in walnut shell.

Love the fit of the 744's, great buy and I wear the hell out of them.

    Hi All,

The Wolverine 744's are my first pair of shell boots. The fit is perfect, but the boots "sqeak" when I walk in them. Is this normal for this type of boot, and more importantly, will the "squeaking" work its way out?

    Thanks.

So what's the consensus on sizing with these? I'm an 8.5 in the AE 5 last, a 9 in sneakers, and an 8 in a Clark's db..should I go for an 8 or 8.5?

I want to share with you that I wear 8D in Alden Barrie last longwing and I try on the Wolverine 744 in size 8 and 8.5. I end up getting size 8. It fit me perfectly. 8.5 have way too much room in the front.
