Snow and salt in Chicago kills shoes.

So what I did was I took a pair of Frye Brando boots and had my shoe guy put some Viabram lug soles:

Works well but I probably will pick up these Asolo boots:

Wow, those Frye's look great. I don't see them on the Frye site though. Good idea about the soles - probably makes them more comfortable in any weather. What did you waterproof them with?

I imagine with some wool socks any of these could do pretty well in the snow/cold...obviously not for everyone, and not for trudging through deep snow, but I like Diemme a lot. Never owned nor tried them on, but they look great online.

Also, for those interested, Jcrew is selling some Danner Mountain Light's with a 30% discount right now.

    Sorel 1964 Pac Canvas Boot

    Thoughts?

Trying to stay away from bulky/ugly Sorel style boots, but something about the color scheme makes me think I could pull it off and be warm/functional at the same time.

Im strongly considering copping these. Theyre stylish and look like they can endure some hardcore shit. Im on the fence with those are the Concepts collab. http://www.cncpts.com/blog/2010/11/concepts-for-sorel/

I have a pair in brown leather and as I stated earlier in this thread the sole is useless in snow.

Yes they are goddamn ugly but I'd rather buy them than buy $300 shoes that will get destroyed in the snow. I'm just wondering if there is an option out there for non-ugly winter boots. I don't see a need for function and style to be mutually exclusive.
what was the point of this thread again? [IMG]

if you've lived in montreal for more than a year you'd probably would have figured out what winter boots that you like right? just buy some women's army combat "inspired" boots from a department store and you'll be fine. might as well go with womens boots. or head over to the local army surplus store and get real combat boots. [IMG] $39.99 at overstock
