This is what I came in to ask about, so...thanks! I'd love to hear any more details, if possible. Is there any other last that you'd compare the Aurora to? Would you consider it 'low volume' under the vamp?

Also...I'm embarrassed to ask this, but...what's the difference between one-piece and two-piece apron?

Thanks!

Hmm it’s probably similar to GG TG73, maybe a touch narrower at the toe. Yes, quite low volume but not excessively so.

2 piece apron from Ann. One piece apron from Meermin
see how both are ‘round’ aprons? If you zoom in on the Ann one, there’s actually a seam where the vamp meets the rest of the upper edge against edge. This is as opposed to a pie crust, or what I consider the ‘most inferior’ type of apron, the2 piece parallel edge apron

Ah! So it just means the 'lake' is a separate clicked piece of the hide, while on a one-piece apron it's all just decorative stitching of one type or another? I guess I was thinking 'lake' and 'apron' were used interchangeably.

Not sure what you mean by lake, but yes the stitching on a one-piece is decorative.

Emil uses the Vibram Explosion topys for his, which is pretty nice, so you all might as well get the topy straight from him, since the cobbler probably won't do as good of a job.

Got these bois coming to me on Friday so I am super pumped. Bespoke wholecut loafer in Brown pull up, with the vibram explosion topy.

Hell of a last. Why did you go with a local leather?

Lake is the apron. And yes that is correct @acapaca.

I will say that I do like the option of keeping it bare which would result in then having a high end sole on my loafers.
Saying that, it would save me the time and money of adding the topy. I also like the topy for its grip capability. The Vibram explosion (as @ifticar2 just mentioned) is indeed a nicer topy than my cobbler gets.

But as @boot_owl mentioned, I am actually content with either option. @bsarosi you want to act as the tie breaker? To topy or not to topy?, that is the question.

Beautiful! Did you do the fitting in person?

I wonder how much of an additional charge it is for those topys ?. Admittedly, I'd be giving away my money because I wouldn't be taking advantage of the durability, quality, and purpose of those JR Soles. However if it's not too exorbitant of a cost, I have thrown away money on lesser products & services and lived to tell the tale.

This is actually more of a trial shoe for me lol. So, I already have my Museum calf split toes, but there are two areas where the fit can be improved. I had placed an order for two really cool boots out of some awesome leathers, but wanted to do 1 more trial shoe to test the last adjustments before Emil made the two boots. Rather than pay 100 for a cemented trial shoe, I figured might as well pay a bit more and get a regular line loafer, since I almost exclusively wear my Grant Stone Dune Traveler loafers during the summer. Didn't want to spend too much, so went with the pull up, which looks nice, and is a leather that I won't mind abusing.

No, did an online fitting where Emil walked me through the steps on whatsapp to get all the tracings done. From there, had a couple trial shoes, and a pair of Grandeur Line Split Toes. The fit is pretty great, just working on refining it through small adjustments. I'm sure the last would fit even better if I could get measured in person. Emil is always saying that my last is part of his education, and using it to learn. Right now, I don't believe online bespoke is available, but it could be coming back in the future.

Think someone said earlier that the price for regular sole+ topy wouldn't be too different from price of JR Sole. I don't think it would make much sense to put topy on a JR Sole either, but topy on regular leather makes a lot of sense. Gives you the appearance of leather soles from the edges, but grip and durability of rubber. Plus, when the topy wears out, you can just get a new topy put on instead of resoling.

I think with GYW, your supposed to resole after some years, just because of moisture. Is it the same for Handwelted shoes?

I mentioned it so did @boot_owl.
So obviously, I agree that it doesn't make sense. It is the logical thing to do, however I'm an illogical shoe owner haha.

As far as I know, you shouldn't be required to resole a HW shoe unless you actually need to resole. The GYW shoe has more layers in its interior, so I guess that would heighten the potential for moisture build up.

Saying that, I actually have not had to resole any pairs of shoes that I own. Re-topy or re-heel yes. Which I guess is another reason I tend to place a topy on my shoes. Easily and inexpensively replaced.

I’d vote no topy but if someone is hell bent on having them, I could go that way.

So no topy for this one. I don't necessarily need it either, but keeping it as is provides me the option later.

In any case, I have already emailed Emil to send me an invoice for my pair ?. The loafers will be in my possession much earlier than it will be time for me to use it. 4 to 5 months was the quote.

I’ll email Emil and request an invoice as well.

Those are some beautiful loafers. Mind sharing the total cost and time?

Base price for the loafer was 190 + 40 for Explosion topy, and then shipping/paypal fee. Altogether amazing price for a hand welted bespoke loafer. The time will vary depending on what is currently on Emil's plate.
