Good question. Considering it will be the Aurora with the almond toe, I think keep the same mindset and have it as a rounded apron. A 2 piece round apron looks cool because we would have the inclusion of that lovely stitch.
I also think it looks slightly less formal as a two piece.

Alternatively, because it is a grain leather (like the Lizard) a one piece round keeps the general appearance neat and tidy.

I'll look at the other Aurora lasts that used a grain leather to compare.
If I'm not wrong, there's only one Aurora last and it is a soft chisel. That would be my preference.

So a running head count is myself, @bsarosi, @boot_owl, and @evangel21 for the Mahagony loafer. Which meets the minimum head count Emil requires for the leather to be ordered. In its current iteration we also would have the potential for the GMTO in a Mahagony loafer.

@acapaca is a strong maybe for the Mahagony loafer.

I usually like to know as much information as possible about what goes into a shoe. That being said, as standard our interiors and exteriors would be as follows:
Lama calf leather, argentine insole and welt, JR outsole and heel, Baker's stiffeners.

I am attempting to determine what would be the upcharge for the Baker's sole only, as well as the upcharge for full Baker's interiors and soles.

In regards to adding another wrinkle and because boot owl mentioned EG, what do guys think of a painted sole?
A la EG

I do enjoy a painted waist, but I don’t have particularly strong opinions here

Wouldn't matter to me really. It is just for the aesthetics of the thing. No one really sees it either, but you know it is there 😁.

Other than a general feel for the apron and if anyone wants something for the edge, we pretty much have all the details squared away. And yes @evangel21, it is the chiseled almond toe haha.

Not that it sounds like you'd need me for the GMTO, but thought I'd share an update from my side. I just couldn't get my mind off that lizard loafer, thanks to whoever posted it here, so I think that's the way I'm going to go. I think I understand them to say that it would cost me 445 USD for a pair, which sounds like to steal to me if it looks anywhere near as good in real life as it does in that picture!

I think I may start by taking them up on their offer of a wearable cemented trial shoe for 100 USD shipped (to my country, anyway) and go from there, with the very affordable option of last modification that they seem to offer.

Gonna still keep an eye on your lama adventures, though! And big thanks for the pics of the beautiful lizard loafers!

You sure that isn't just a starting price for the loafers? I am going to guess it should be substantially more than that for the Lizard.

In any case, the price for the cemented trial shoe with minimal cost made to the last sounds like an excellent proposition. 👏🏻

Yeah that would have left me dumbfounded as well. As mentioned, I believe it is the starting price for the loafers then the additional cost for the leather.

$445 doesn't sound too farfetched to me. I think it may be tanned at a local exotic tannery, which means you aren't paying for shipping and customs fees (20-30% for leather), which he gets slugged with to bring in things like Ilcea museum calf

Well, I was certainly also very pleased to see a price way lower than I expected, so maybe I miscommunicated. But I showed him the IG link and asked for a quote and asked if it was Java lizard. He said:

"That loafers MTO cost USD 445, and yes we are using grade A java lizard."

And then he went on say that he didn't yet know what the lama would cost, so I don't think he was confusing one for the other. I hope @boot_owl is right! I'm just transfixed by the beauty of that picture of that pair of shoes.

Fantastic. I’ve been dreaming of lizard shoes for awhile. Will have to commission one from him in the future.

Ah okay so it is local exotic leather. I was thinking "For the European stuff!" Hahaha. Considering you would be purchasing Grade A Java Lizard, it is an extremely good deal.

I ordered my 4th and 5th pair of shoes/boots from Winson. Will share some pics when they arrive ~Dec-Jan. I bought a pair of combat boots with side zips as well as a service boot.

For the unaware: Winson has discontinued their Regular line and is in the midst of starting the regular stuff under the "Midas Bootmaker" label. Emil will rework the patterns on his lasts under this new label.

Anyone with flat feet have experience with this brand? I'm curious to see how they fit. Unfortunately I experience gaping on the side with some brands and I'm hoping this one isn't the case because I love the aesthetic of the shoes, not to mention the prices they offer.

what kind of lasts do you find work best with flat feet? More arch support?

Alright boys we have a price. So, as you are all aware Emil and Winson Shoes have been busy with the new venture.
Fortunately, we have a price for the shoes.
For the following details:

Model: Thick strap Loafer
- Line: Grandeur
- Last: Aurora
- Leather: Mahogany Lama leather
- Construction: Hand Welted (flat welt)
- Apron style: Rounded 2 piece apron with edges meeting, simulating a 1 piece apron
- Waist: Beveled Round waist
- Sole: Standard Single JR Leather

So again, no fiddleback waist or blind waist but it will be rounded beveled waist.

So you can say the sole will be like this from the profile and overhead view

While the rounded underside, like this

Of course, the upper last shape will be the Aurora last

So the price would be $420 with the lasted spring loaded trees $500.

If you opt for a hinged hollowed tree, you are looking at $550
