Wingtips without medallions?

I am getting my first MTO shoes, and I’m getting color 8 shell cordovan wingtips.

I’m tempted to get no medallion to make it a little less busy. But I don’t know if it will look goofy or just a little off.

What do you think of a wingtip with no medallion? Would it be a mistake?

The style is often called an "austerity brogue".

I'm not a fan and have never been tempted to get a pair.

If anything, I think they're more conspicuous than the typical wingtip with a medallion.

I thought an austerity brogue had no broguing and no medallion. I am talking about regular broguing, but not medallion on the toe.

I don't know if there's a name for that particular configuration.

I think that one of the risks of anything custom is making choices just because you can. Why exactly are you getting them MTO? Surely there are several good options for RTW color 8 shell wingtips.

I went with MTO because the company was having a good sale and they only do shell in MTO.

You are totally right that all the choices were a bit much and there were several areas where I wasn’t sure what to do. I actually emailed them after I put in the order and told them to let me know if anything seems like it wouldn’t go well. They said it looked good, but they probably would say that regardless.

Maybe I should write them again and see if they can add a medallion? I actually mocked it up on the Carmina website with and without medallions and thought it looked about equal, maybe a little better without. But it’s hard to tell how that translates in real life and I don’t necessarily trust my eye over the entire shoe-wearing world.

I appreciate your thoughts, BTW.

Oh, and I’ve heard of that configuration referred to as a blind brogue, but I’ve also seen people say a blind brogue is something different.

Personally I'd prefer a full brogue with medallion, it's probably my favorite/most worn type of shoe.

I owned a no-medallion brogue for a while. Sold them on because I found it difficult to style the navy and white, but generally I was fine with how they looked.
