I got invited to a Wine Down Event at an upscale restaurant..and the dress code I am told is nice casuals!

I have two Q'ns:

1) What the heck is wine down event !...Is it similar to wine tasting events or its just a bar where they have a much larger selection of wines. Do you just go and eat and drink wine like any regular gathering for 25-30 people...!?

2) Nice Casuals: I was planning on wearing Blue Jeans, White slim fit linen Shirt and a Black two button Jacket ..
Does that work..?

I am sure fashion guru's here have been to a lot of events where wine involvement was pretty high [

Just a guess - "wine down" is a play on words for "wind down" with wine. To 'wind down' means to move towards relaxation.

I have learnt the hard way that one ought to check with host(s) to see what attire is desired. Most people have no concept of the fact that there are technical terms specifying certain types of dress, rather than just amorphous terms that can be bandied and interpreted any way a host desires (without telling to guests). In my case, there was no harm done (IMHO) since I was dressed appropriately for the environment where the event was held.

If by "nice casuals" the host intends "business casual," then I would say that you are definitely in the ballpark. I would lose the black jacket and go with a different shade such as navy or grey (black just doesn't belong). Jeans will work, but are not in my personal taste (especially if this restaurant is "upscale" as you indicate). I'd recommend your shirt had a collar too, though this may be up for debate.
