What type for shirt is appropriate to wear with a blue on blue large windowpane jacket? Can checks and stripes be worn? I was thinking of pairing it with a blue gingham from Janzten. What is the proper rule for this?

I think that sounds great. I'd avoid pairing a pure windowpane shirt with the coat, or stripes that are too variegated or bold. But you should be able to wear most everything else. A gingham check - particularly a smaller scale one - should work beautifully, especially if the color pairs up nicely with the windowpane's shade.

Just make sure you change the size and intensity of the shirt pattern. I think a more subtle stripe or check would work better for that jacket.
