Will this work as an odd jacket?

So this is the Brioni jacket I thrifted last week. It's a heavy wool navy pinstripe, though the stripes are very thin and unpronounced, in red and light blue. I tried my best to find matching pants but to no avail. I've read some posts that indicate it's not advisable to wear a navy pinstripe as an odd jacket, but I thought I'd ask for your opinions given that it's a one button SB with besom pockets - if that makes any difference. I'm thinking I would wear it casually with jeans or grey cords. Thoughts?

I would tend to think that that jacket veritably screams "I am an orphaned suit coat."

I would also tend to think that 99% of people wouldn't know that and would not look at you twice.

With that said, given that so many people say "Nice suit!" when you are in fact just wearing an odd jacket might lend a certain irony to that inevitability.

Of course it's an orphaned suit coat.

But a lot of these can now be worn with denim, khaki, cords.

I personally think this works best with less formal suitings, i.e. flannels rather than worsteds, but your mileage may vary.

Yes alot of people do it. But his question was will it work? And the answer is no, it doesn't work for them or you.

Thanks for the replies. It should be inferred from my post that I'm aware it is an orphaned suit jacket. So that aside, the consensus appears to be that it will not work? Fine. Any suggestions on what I should do with it then? Is there no way it can look good in the casual format that some have suggested here, or should I make pillow cases out of it?

I had to pass up a Samuelsohn jacket the other day for this same reason, but it was the right thing to do. Even for the $5.50 price tag.

Cut it up and study its construction, take lots of pictures and post it here.

This was a long thread about striped suits and sportcoats. I think you could wear this at night if you are a college student or twentysomething going among young people in jeans and so forth. It might not look like cheesy clubbing attire if done well. As daytime business attire, it's not good.
