I added this belt to my bag. When I went to checkout I get this warning:
California Prop 65 entitles California consumers to special warnings for products that contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Prop 65 Warning:

WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm. This product is not a toy and is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. Do not allow children to mouth this product.

For more information, go to http://www.oehha.ca.gov/prop65/prop65_list/Newlist.html

Is there lead in this belt?

Edit- I am not actually concerned, I just thought it was quite funny.

To enhance the machinability of brass, lead is often added in concentrations of around 2%. Since lead has a lower melting point than the other constituents of the brass, it tends to migrate towards the grain boundaries in the form of globules as it cools from casting. The pattern the globules form on the surface of the brass increases the available lead surface area which in turn affects the degree of leaching. In addition, cutting operations can smear the lead globules over the surface. These effects can lead to significant lead leaching from brasses of comparatively low lead content.[8]

Just ignore it - California is more a little OTT.

Prop 65 is such a joke. The law is supposed to protect consumers, but really just allows dirtbag lawyers to file erroneous lawsuits.

The suits filed in regard to heavy metals within some cod liver oil supplements a few year back is a great example

The FDA has a part per billion heavy metal level that is acceptable for humans. If you come in below said level (which is tiny), you are not required to list that ingredient on your labels in 51 US states, ASIDE from good ol' California (prop 65). This is because if you come in under the FDA's set level, you are ingesting less PCB's than are found in nature by eating a cooked fish or drinking normal tap water. In short, the lawyers sued the crap out of many companies that didn't list heavy metals as an active ingredient in their product based on prop 65, even though the PCB in the product was less than what you ingest via nature and many many times smaller than the acceptable/safe PCB level for infants.

Idiots.

The ballot initiative process has not been good for that state. Though it proves quite convincingly that direct democracy doesn't work, whatwith most voters being morons.

Spot on.

I shouldn't paint with such a broad brush though, and I mean no disrespect towards lawyers in general.

Interesting read Dave. I wouldn't be concerned. Cell phones, air, food, water, drinking, drugs (prescribed or not), bad drivers and bad women are probably a lot more dangerous to ones health than this belt would be.

This is the reason why some manufacturers do not sell certain products to addresses in California. Prop 65 is a joke all the way around. From what I've seen pretty much everything causes cancer according to the collective braintrust in CA.

Really?
This is the first time I have had a warning from an online retailer. I always see prop 65 signs in B&M stores, but never online.
