1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Is there any reason why you can't store them in a box which isn't Hermes branded?

Come on, OP's story is complete bullshit. He was planning on selling the ties or gifting them and wanted the boxes to make it looke like he purchased them new. If he wanted the boxes for storage, he would not need the tie boxes to have the Hermes name on them.

I find that the best box is a cube of about 4' per side. That way a tie can be rolled up after wearing and stored, preserving its shape. They also cluster nicely in a drawer dedicated to ties. I have found that ties that are stored flat lose their shape and fullness.

Tom Ford also provides the rectangular boxes, which aren't very practical for storage. But it is a nice presentation piece when purchasing an item.

Why on earth do you keep the ties in separate boxes? And assuming you do, why do the boxes need to be branded the same as the ties?

I like a nice box as much as the next man, but it's no place to keep a tie.

Assuming you don't want this box to con someone into purchasing a used tie that he thinks is "new in box" I have quite a few (I have a Hermes addiction), and I'd be willing to help you out.

You know, the last time this topic came up on SF (years & years ago, and might not have been Hermes, exactly, but some high-end shop anyway), I think someone ended up posting a link to an eBay auction for some old boxes. I bet if you looked on eBay, you'd find some sellers still selling them. If you think about it, it's quite a neat case of how a market develops. Sad on one level, but neat in its own way.

EDIT: actually, I just searched and didn't find any such auctions. Maybe eBay pulled them all in face of legal complaints from Hermes/others?
