I really enjoy the multiple polo players because really, if you're going to pay the money, you might as well get a 3 man polo match on your chest.

Yes, I must agree, this is really awful. Can you imagine wearing a button down oxford with a 4 inch wide polo player on your breast???

Deeply and depressingly crass.
My local RL Polo store has quite a large stock of what I assume are "Olympic" themed polo shirts, as they come in different colours and each has a particular national flag on one sleeve. I wouldn't have minded picking on up on sale, but for the fact that each has what seems like a huge, embroidered polo match taking place on the chest. The only way that it could be worse would be for there to be an embroidered logo on the back of the shirt, stating "Polo, Motherf#$%@!"

Indefensible in my opinion, but I guess it sells. I can't really get my arms around the fact that the same designer can put out elegant BL and PL and some nice Polo non-logo'd jackets and the like with this crap.

If they're going to call them "Holiday Favorites", they should at least come out with a version where the giant polo player is wearing a Santa hat.

Because people buy them.

And I would assume that part of that money goes into financing the other branches (RLBL/RLPB/RRL).

For a significant percentage of RL's target market, the logo is the no. 1 reason they buy RL anyway. These are like ultimate RLs for them.

The same reason that Burberry make items that have their novacheck plastered all over them, and Gucci sell items that have their 'G' all over: because some people think that dressing well means showing off how expensive your clothes were, regardless of how ridiculous you look...

I stopped in at JC Penney to check out the American Living line and found that pretty much everything has a big multi-colored logo on the chest. Some larger than others. I couldn't get past the logo to begin to check out the items.

A few years ago at the US Open Tennis in NY the ball boys wore oversized logos that would stand out on TV and they caught on...why, who knows?
