Anybody see it? Simplistic but worthwhile...

Here is a link to the movie.

Many of the immigrant film makers - Capra and Kazan in particular, felt a debt to their adopted country and made films of great patriotic fervor (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and America, America).

One of the victims of Kazan's testimony before HUAC, Dalton Trumbo, would go on to pen a screenplay for the very underrated The Brave One.

Loved it. But I think most would consider it pretty liberal.

Hah! I think there is a difference in tone today. Kazan made Gentleman's Agreement (exposing anti-semitism) and On the Waterfront (pro union) but exposed the worst of human nature in an attempt to appeal to the best in human nature. I think that therein lies the difference between older Hollywood liberalism and today's hollywood of hate. Even Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" starts off with a suicide and a child being beaten.

CDM:

Did we watch the same movie?

The one I'm talking about was in theatres last year. Started with Eisenhower's Farewell Adress?

Thought it was great. I wouldn't call it simplistic, I thought it was an excellent introduction and overview to the military industrial complex. You're kind of hemmed in by the medium. A movie cannot provide the detail or complexity that a book can.

The ones I'm referring to are the "Why We fight" series. Official US propoganda from WWII.

We live in the era of spectacular time. Sigh.

I think that's what it was. I guess you can only get so specific in a movie. Quite scary. Brought to light things I hadn't known or even thought about.

Link added to original post for clarity.

I feel bad for the cop and wonder what ever happened to the kid in the Army. I would imagine his life was improved by the stability of the military (if he's not dead).

This is the one I saw...

Tck's link from above also provides Eisenhower's speech/movie trailer.

McCain had a few vignettes for which I bet he got some ****.

Discussed Cheney and Halliburton...

Definitely worth renting IMO.

I like how Dick Cheney is calling while McCain is doing his interview!
