Why Not Button-front Shirts?

This isn't a true Streetwear post, but probably fans of Streetwear are best able to answer it, as some members likely will not wear button-front shirts unless they have to.

Why is that? Fit? Associations with business clothing or grunge, for example? Vague memories of being forced to dress up in childhood?

Button down shirts take longer to put on and take off. There's your answer.

That's a good reason not to like them on women.... Not men.

Personally, they are a staple of my wardrobe.... But then again I am not really a streetwear person.

Can't answer your Q as buttonups are also a staple of my closet too. But I'd guess that they're seen as too "grownup" by the naysayers......but a well fitting close to body buttonup shirt can be dressed up/down for a "streetwear" vibe. I think the popularity of shirts like Band of Outsiders are making buttonup shirts more acceptable as 'streetwear'

i sometimes too closely associate wearing a button-front shirt with being on the clock. makes it hard to fully relax, maybe?

I wear them all the time, but growing up I hated button-front shirts because they never fit. If you're not either built or fat, the standard button-front shirt you're forced to wear growing up fits like a tent. I only really started liking them again when I started to find OTR shirts that I could afford but still fit slim.

EDIT: Cheap beat me to it. If it wasn't for H&M/Zara/the occasional thrift find, I'd have like three button-front shirts that I saved to wear with suits because I can't afford to risk something casually that I spent a lot of money to have tailored.

Because most button-up shirts are cut to be tucked in.

Tucking your shirt in your pants currently isn't a popular look on the "street"

Here's my favorite streetwear shirt right now. Fits me perfectly. Tailored and just the right length:

I like it. Who makes it?

Personally, I do wear button down shirts. I don't do it as often now because I'm in school and fully enjoying my bum privileges. I have to wear button down shirts and suits for the next 40 years, so it's not a priority issue right now.

J-

Thanks for putting those pics up. Nice not only to meet another "Zen" fan but to find a page like that. The first pic on the site is a classic.

My closet is more t-shirts than button-ups, but not by much. Some of my button-ups are more casual than my t-shirts.

I rarely wear button-ups because they often look too formal to me.. that's the only real reason.
