Why is Harry Windsor dressed so atrociously now?

He didn't always dress like that. I mean, here he was still wearing a good suit. Nothing particularly interesting, but good cut and fit (from the buttonhole and silhouette I'd guess a middle of the road Savile Row maker). I bet he was also wearing OTC (i.e. normal) socks that day. Why is he going out of his way to look like crap now? He didn't even have to wear a suit for that interview, right?

If you look up images of him on Getty Images, you'll see that he often wears J. Crew suits at fancy events.

He was always a complete knob-end. One of the worst Royals, except for Randy Andy.

OK. I doubt he has stooped to the level of a sponsorship deal, so he's probably just being a total snob with those crap suits, which makes me dislike him even more. He's basically telling everyone they're common for caring about basic quality in a suit. Well he succeeded in making me feel vulgar now. Sigh.

? I don't think most people care about quality suits. Most people don't even care about suits, nevermind quality ones. Or even clothes.

Yeah I get that. But it still seems a jarring political statement. I mean, Oprah wouldn't be interviewing him if he weren't who he is, and pretending to be a regular joe with those socks just seems fake to me.

Speaking as someone from a ‘regular Joe’ background, the only way someone could use their socks to make a political statement that would be understood by me and mine is if their socks carried the message “Give nurses a bigger pay rise, you stingy bastards” in block letters.

I don’t think I was really aware of the existence of over the calf socks as something people actually wore until I saw Rob Brydon recommend them on an episode of QI not that many years ago. People who would describe themselves as regular Joes tend not to know or care about the complex language of clothing worn exclusively by wealthy buggers.

Yeah but look: that guy grew up with the default idea that suits come from a Savile Row tailor. That's true for people of his extraction regardless of whether they care about clothes. His engagement photo above shows that he must have a fair few SR suits in his wardrobe. So he's not going with J Crew as a sort of default "don't care" option. He's doing it deliberately is my point.

I think it's possible he knows how to dress for very special events but generally doesn't care about clothes and doesn't want to live every day as a royal at special events.

Not sure why anyone cares tbh. What difference would it make if he wore SR suits every day?

It just seems inauthentic that he doesn't wear a SR suit (and normal socks, etc) when he wears a suit. I guess that's what grates a little, at least for me.

Is it any more inauthentic than StyleForum guys who spend all day trying to dress like Italians, Ivy League graduates, aristocrats, old money people, etc?

I don't get you people. Let the man live as he chooses. The amount of hate these two get from small-minded people on the internet is truly baffling to me.

Would I prefer if he wore bespoke? Not intrinsically, but that would help bespoke be more popular.
