1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

(Location + Situation / Size and Build) - Budget = Style

Get all these elements right and you'll come out looking good.

Choose the clothes to fit the situation and your shape. When you've learnt to do this, you have style.

I feel you can never* be over dressed but you can be under dressed.

*"never" used for impact, I was asked to leave the swimming pool when I refused to remove my top hat and tail.

I think it's also the versatility of a black suit. There isn't as many options for ties and shirts compared to the other conservative colours. Also, if you start collecting more than a few suits, you don't have as much variety in the pattern.

I'll admit that until recently all I ever wore my whole life was a black suit. Honestly, I never thought anything of it. I suppose you can break it all down to rules - there is a time and a place for everything. For example, would you wear a Tuxedo to work? Would you wear jeans to the Opera? I suppose you could do either, but surely you would agree both are out of place. Now that my eyes have been opened to possibilities, I find an all black suit rather boring. I am still having trouble getting over black shoes though. [IMG]

Unfortunately I think I see more jeans at the opera than tuxedos. I'm sticking to black tie though or at least a lounge suit.

There is nothing wrong with wearing a black suit if it suits your personal style.

    1. Black is the very color which best matches with white. Too formal. Black and white is too simple and heavy. 2. It's not unlawful for wearing a black suit at workplace. You won't be charged, fined or arrested. 3. If you work in funeral industry, orchestra, or private security service, black suit is perfect. Nobody hates or is against black suit per se. Most people find black suit is too much formal for a daily business suit.
No, funeral workers are now encouraged to wear dark colours other than black as it is seen as too severe and associated with death. Private security as in bodyguards? Because if you mean guards they wear the grey pants and navy blazer people here love.

I wear both, and I find black very slimming. Also, sometimes I want to look like the angel of death so it does not bother me one iota. While you can learn alot here, and I have, you have to be yourself as well. Just because they are not accepted here in general, does not mean you should shun them. This is, after all the internet.

Within the last month I've attended two funerals in different cities and noticed that not one of the morticians was wearing a black suit. They wore dark suits, but not black.

It is possible to wear a black suit well. Rules are only made to protect the clueless. If you know what you are doing then do it!
Black suits are hated here because a few members with a few thousand posts say not to and then everyone else just follows. This is how Style forum functions. Welcome to the community

This sums it up pretty well [IMG] Post counts astound some, and they blindly follow whatever they are told instead of developing their own sense of style. The most common suit color I actually saw when I was in college for Finance was black...some may say it's because they are just starting off, but now that I'm going into law it's very interesting to see the large number of lawyers pictured in black suits too.

I'm not saying this is best for everyone, I've seen it look really bad, especially in our St. Louis summers.... But I've seen black suits pulled off really well. My French girlfriend (who is very opinionated about clothes and doesn't mind sharing her opinion often [IMG] ) loves a very slim fitting black Givenchy suit I have (marked gray like they seem to do.... but this is seriously the blackest gray the world has ever known) and I like to wear it sometimes for going out to a trendy chic spot.

Don't just limit yourself from the start because of what a message board focusing on a minority of people says, try things out for yourself and see what works for you and your wardrobe. There are so many variables that there is no one right answer: your style, wardrobe, attitude, location (big one), etc.

Outside of a dog, a black suit is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to tell what color a suit is. (Deepest apologies to Groucho.)

Anyway, i've noticed that the majority of the folks here are for some reason against full black suits? Why is that?

Because someone that they would rather be told them that's what they should think.

Everyone is not against black suits and trousers - just a vocal view who will swamp this thread with their irrational answers. if you like them,. as I do, then enjoy them. Don't fall for the herd instinct.

One does not have to - it is self evident and a search on other threads confirms the point.
