This morning, as I was getting dressed, my wife asked me where I got the shirt I was wearing. Long-time readers of SF would likely guess that it was an OCBD from J.Press and would be right.
"What's wrong with it?" I asked.
"It doesn't fit, it's huge," she said. I showed her that it fit perfectly fine at the collar and shoulders.
"Well, it's still ugly," she said. "If you want to save money on your shirts, can't you buy them on sale at Turnbull & Asser?"
"Too loud," I responded.
"Michael _____ gets all his shirts at Turnbull & Asser and he always looks nice and they're not loud."
"How do you know where he gets his shirts?"
"I asked him. He gets his ties there, too. He buys all his clothes at their clearance sales."
I knew I had to change the subject so I used my iGent skills to point out that Prince Charles now gets his suits there instead of A&S and that I wanted an OCBD rather than a T&A shirt for the more casual look. When her eyes started to glaze over as I launched into a discussion of Black Fleece I knew I had won.
But I hadn't.
The minute I put on my tie, it started again.
"Talk about too loud," she said, "that tie is awful" (J.Press strikes again - an Irish Poplin).
Then it got nasty.
"How did they ever let you in the London Lounge?" she asked. "Do they know you dress like this."
I had to tell her the truth:
"I never post pictures."
And now you know why.
