Happy New Year to you.

I wrote a post on Fashables explaining the title of this thread. I've copied the post below for you to read, and it would be interesting to get your feedback. If you'd like to read some of the reaction you can do so here, http://www.fashables.com/why-gq-made-me-say-are-you-fing-kidding-me. Feel free to chime in here as well.

Maybe it’s not and I’m just an out of touch weirdo, but honestly, I don’t know many people that would dish out that kind of money on an outfit.

Now, there is the chance that you have research that says your readers only consists of Wall Street guys and millionaires, but that would also surprise me.

You do a great job of highlighting various styles, but why can’t you do that on a level that most guys can actually afford? By doing that you are more than just a magazine, you are a resource that guys can use to get outfit inspiration, and then actually purchase various.

Again, I’m a fan of the publication, but the price-point of most of the clothes you highlight is simply out of touch. But hey, maybe I’m clueless and most guys are jumping at the opportunity to pay $145 for a simple yellow sweatshirt.

Thanks for listening,

Ryan

I'm exactly the opposite. I will definitely pay thousands for a suit, but I am not a fan of GQ and wouldn't follow their fashion advice. I wouldn't spend $145 for a yellow sweatshirt because I would never buy a yellow sweatshirt, not because it's too expensive.

I am not a millionaire.

In the words of Jason Isbell, "don't call what you're wearin' an outfit."

That's all I've got right now.

my butler wears clothing more expensive than that, and he buys them with his own money.

I once enjoyed GQ for the interviews and essays, and the odd little articles like where to eat in what city, ect...

Their interviews have become far too "gonzo" like, and the articles are very pretentious. A month or two ago they had one about a Japanese man who floated on top of his roof for days after the Tsunami. It sounded really interested so I started to read it, but the first few pages was filled with so much self-important bullshit that I just had to stop.

Fashables is one of the best websites on the Internet, bar none, but I don't think this post is up to the usual standard.

GQ is Condé Nast, that's what they do. If you're not a baller, then don't read baller publications.

$2000 outfit? peasants.

Indeed....GQ is intended for the affluent bourgeois gent and NOT for the paupers and peasantry.

They're doing that, ain't they? Just find a cheaper version, or is that too difficult? Or what's your definition of the word "inspiration"?
