Why does this shoe's leather look dull?

Even after i polish them, they don't really have much shine on them.

I haven't worn them much, this was the first time i polished them. I was using kiwi shoe polish.

I had some camera problems, the flash was throwing off the way they looked. But they're definatly duller looking than other shoes i have.

COuld be the type of leather or if you have used in the past some sort of oil like mink oil. I have seen dullness result from that in the past...

Very cool loafers but they almost look too shiny to me. It's hard to photograph leather some times but they look more like a casual leather that wouldn't take shining so well. I'd probably take some saddle soap to them and maybe a little mink oil if they needed it (they'll get darker).

Who made em?

Hm, i wasn't aware that there were various sorts of leather, other than real/correct grain distinction (and nubuck, etc). I'll look for some mink oil...

They are johnston & murphy.
