Why do you buy luxury goods and how do they make you feel?

Hi there everybody.

I am very new to this forum and luxury goods have been really intriguing to look at. Of course, they appeal to millions of people across the world. I don't myself own a luxury item, and I was wondering the other day, whilst looking at my wardrobe to decide on what to wear to dinner with my girlfriend, why do people buy luxury items? What truly is it about them that gives it such high appeal? And by appeal, I'm looking for more of an answer than just talking about the price. It's something more than that, surely. Something deeper. I would just like peoples' views on luxury items to give me a better insight on this.
