Why do they tailor the sleeves from the shoulder on a suit with surgeons cuffs.

My tailor told be that if they took from the bottom, I would be left with one button on the very end of the sleeve. Obviously that would look silly. So we decided to take the sleeves up from the top, the cost a bit more of course.

But why can't they just move the buttons up so that wont happen. Does that cost a lot more or something? I know I'm not in the know of something here, just curious. I 100% trust my tailor, he's fantastic.

They could move the buttons up, but you would still have a buttonhole at the bottom of the sleeve.

then why not move them up just enough so you wont have a button hole on the bottom of the sleeve? I'm so confused. :(

How do you expect to move buttonholes?

Personally, I like a smaller distance from bottom button to sleeve hem than what is usual in RTW, so I can have surgeon cuffs shortened from the bottom, but not by much.

Oh man, I guess I just needed a slap in the face, thanks RDiaz. What milerp said makes perfect sense now. After chopping off the ends and adding buttons, you obviously would not be able to move the bottom button hole.

What do you expect to do with the button holes?
