Why do some EBay Auctions not have a counter?

Hey guys--

I was checking out some ebay auctions, and I noticed that some sellers put a counter for number of page views and some don't. Why would a seller not put a counter on the item being auctioned? Wouldn't a lot of hits generate even more interest? Or maybe they're worried about the opposite happening?

Possibly that the seller chose not to have a counter if his object is not a very popular item (popular in that sense that few people search for exactly that term), if buyers see that few people have viewed the item they might draw the conclusion that it's not a good item and skip bidding on it.

I don't see why a seller shouldn't put an invisble counter on their site. It's obviously a good diagnostic tool to hone their methods.

The counter goes in if the seller chooses it.

The counter may work or may just show some dashes. Ebay says it's just a fun toy or something...since it is provided at no additional charge, they feel no responsibility for it working or not
