1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Why do people distort their faces when they post a picture in the WAYWT thread?

    Does your makeup run?

I have blurred brain syndrome - everynight at about 7pm when the vodka kicks in.

It is a matter or personal choice whether people wish to be identifiable on the Internet. It is not a matter for criticism in the slightest and your approach to this does not take into choice or indeed common sense into account.

Indeed two clauses of your statement

    • your slightly malformed intro "I need (to) understood why people do this." .

suggests a paranoia which is concerning. NB I have added in brackets the missing word so it makes sense as collection of words

    and

    • we're all family here

Suggests a naive appreciation of the Internet. No one here is remotely related to me let alone in the family category so I treat everyone with appropriate reserve.

At least facebook or all those social networking sites give you a sense of privacy control. But online forums? Doubt they even care.

    And family??? [IMG]

Most people who don't post their faces on SF just don't want gdl chasing them down the street.

But for some, it's more complicated. Vox, for example, doesn't blur his face. It actually looks like that. He can't seem himself in a mirror, either. Really makes shaving a bitch, I understand.

Do not kid yourself. If you post it the internet, you have lost control of it forever. My rule is that if it is something I wouldn't want to see on the front page of the New York Times, I don't post it. Since I don't really like the Times very much, I post hardly anything.

to add to the internet is written in ink point... data is becoming more and more searchable and labelled. I wouldn't be surprised if down the line programs will have face-recognition and then even typing in your name into Google will pull up pics from places like this...

plus, as someone pointed out to me recently when I posted a bunch of their pics, old getups which were experiments or put out there before we knew what we were doing, can come back to haunt us...

I never put anything on the internet unless I'm completely happy for it to be public.

Even stuff one posts on Facebook and other social networks, where one thinks is private and sets it to 'private'. It could go completely public at any time. It's happened so many times before, either through a change of policy by Facebook, or with what one's "friends" could do with your supposedly private stuff, or a security breach, e.g. an account gets hacked.

I believe we are witnessing a leap forward in the way human men communicate with each other. We simply read each others' words and look at pictures of ourselves dressed up. With our faces blurred. I guess our need to be flamboyantly anonymous is driving this evolution.
