Why do I always get ingrowns/zits when I get my back waxed?

Whenever I get my back/shoulders waxed, I get (I imagine)in-grown hairs, which turn into zits. Sometimes I get zits within just a couple days. What's up with that? I thought waxing was supposed to be better for in-growns than shaving, but it doesn't happen nearly as much when I shave it. I've gotten my back waxed a number of times, from different places. Is this typical? Anything I can do to help prevent my back from breaking out when I get it waxed?

I believe this is a reaction due to your skin being irritated from the wax and it being so hot. Notice how extensive heat can cause blisters?

I think thats why, not sure though.

Good point. My apologies if I came off as condescending. I thankfully have little hair on my back.

thats interesting, I'd never really thought about that before. I guess that would explain why my back breaks out so quickly. Would it really be the heat, or a bad reaction from the chemicals in the wax?

When you wax, the hairs get lost in the follicles. You pull them out, so they start to grow from the very bottom again.

+1 Same thing with shaving. Those prone to ingrown hairs can get them with shaving because shaving cuts the whisker so close to the skin (shaving actually removes a layer of skin). The closer the shave the more likely the ingrown hair (for those who are prone). That's why those with sensitive skin who switch to an electric razor usually get some relief. The electric razor doesn't shave as close as a regular razor thus leaving the whiskers slightly longer and less likely to become ingrown.
