Why do ATMs steal ATM cards?

It finally happened. Friends had told me about this happening, but it never happened to me.

The ATM stole my card from me. I don't like theft. I'm pretty angry.

My question is, though, why is it that whenever I see ATM I always think "ass to mouth" rather than automated teller machine? I wish I was joking.

It was a joke implying that black people steal things, so naturally a black ATM would steal your card.
