I did it in 6th grade, which was elementary school. Now that you mention it, that's pretty weird. I lived in a beach town in Southern California. There were no cowboys in sight.

My beach town did not. First I have heard of this. You people are wierd.

I remember running in PE to the Ghostbusters theme by Ray Parker Jr. when I was 5.
That is so cool. I was never that lucky. [IMG] I had MULTIPLE square dancing and line dancing units.

I didn't do square dancing but we did that silly Moorish dancing I think it was called, with the sticks. I did go to an all-boys school though, which may have had an impact.

Morris dancing? It's a medieval folk dance.

I bet you were a hit at renaissance faires.

Growing up right outside of NYC, we had square dancing in 5th and 6th grade. I think the most stupid part of it was the gym teacher "calling" the moves. Very hokie.

On the other hand, we almost all had to go (forced by parents) to "Mrs. Covington's", one evening a week in our navy suits and white gloves to learn ballroom dancing. That ritual started in 4th grade and continued on in various forms through 8th grade. That really wasn't so bad once the girls started growing boobs.

Yeah, we did square dancing in 3rd or 4th grade.

Tinikling? Hehehe... it's a Philippine dance

We had both the square dancing and the Philippino thing. In western Washington, fwiw. Hated it. We also had to do jump-roping routines. Really dumb. At least I learned to double dutch.

My grammar school did square dancing from 3-6th grade. We used to spend a week on a ranch in Oregon every year, and twice during that week we would have square dances. I grew up in a horse town, but I don't believe anybody actually square danced there.

I had it in 5th grade. We danced to two songs off a dusty old LP that was at least 40 years old by then.

^ Those pretty much sum up my 7th and 8th grade gym classes during 2 weeks of the winter. I other than the hokiness of the dance, mingling with girls and stuff was kinda cool.

I just realized that I have taken some formal dance classes, but that's not really the same I guess.
