Why deeper pleats.

We see much discussion over getting trousers made with deeper pleats. Particularly, dissatisfaction with the depth of forward pleats on savile row trousers. I am wondering what the reasoning is for this. What is the advantage of deeper pleats? Do people just like them for the look of deeper pleats or do they somehow enhance the fit of the trouser.

Personally, I just think pleats look better when they're not splayed apart.

As Foo alluded to, I think deeper pleats add straighter lines. Plus they are also more comfortable. I get most of my suit trousers with a single pleat that is close to 1 inch in depth. I have both inward and outward and having decided which I like better. Depends on my mood.
