An SA I work with has a few shirts with very cut away collars. He's a pretty stylish guy. He wears them open collar for the most part. It looks pretty good.

Wouldn't it draw attention away from the face? Narrow collars make a persons face look fatter.

Essentially draws a horizontal line under the face, underscoring the width. It's also eye-grabbing in a way point or spread isn't. I don't care for it on most heavyset guys, or on skinny necked dudes like me. Truth be told, I don't care for it in general, but it looks better on some guys than others.

I actually think spread and cutaway collars tend to make people with wide faces look better. After all, narrow spreads just make a face even wider in relative proportion.

I have a couple fairly severe spreads, but my neck is really too skinny to wear them. Can't imagine going the whole cutaway.
I mostly wear cutaways, and I have a fairly long, 15 inch neck. I don't understand how one could have too skinny of a neck to wear a cutaway collar. It would seem that, the skinnier the neck, the greater the need for a cutaway collar.

This is one of those sartorial "rules" that's often repeated, and certainly proclaimed often by Flusser. I happen to disagree wholeheartedly.

Case in point is the popularity of such style among the Asians, who in general have wider faces. They look great.

The cutaway is my favourite collar, but you are right in that I don't see this collar style worn very often

I don't wish to draw more attention to my neck. Also, I think it's quite possible for a shirt collar to become the focal point of an outfit, and I don't find that desirable at all.

I see, however, what makes you think that a non cutaway will necessarily draw less attention to your neck? One of the things I love about cutaways, is that they look wonderful worn unbuttoned sans tie, because of the way the collar is tapered back. This tapering helps to anchor the collar, if you will; by contrast, a straight collar ends up looking somewhat clumsy with the collar points suspended above the clavicle area.
