I can't get over this. Even the 'thin' American women are plump in the face and arms and such compared to most continental European women.

The CNN thread in CE brought this to my mind when people considered Soledad or whomever she is to be 'hot' (assuming she's the anchor in the video). I'm not implying she's fat, but she has that American plump face that both American men and women have.

It's just so strange how Americans look so American even if they're entirely from another ethnicity genealogically.

For one thing, she's 45. Isn't it harder to look thin as you get older?

I'm living in Europe now - an American over here for a few years. Yes, you're right. I see Italian women in their 40s - and even 50s - who are just stunners. And I don't mean pretty - I mean smokin hot!. Lots of walking, little gluttony, hardly any HFCS.

Besides the obvious reasons (e.g. most Americans eat like shit and are sedentary), the average American diet contains a TON of sodium. That can plump the face a bit, even if the person isn't eating an excess of calories. I've noticed even a couple days of consuming too much sodium can have a pretty noticeable effect on my face.

Fast food is also very cheap in the States and it doesn't help...

Also your portions are very generous compared to European standards.

It's the diet. My experiences have been gained from Yale and Harvard which are not the worst places. Nevertheless, workshop breakfast / lunch was usually doughnuts / pizza / cookies / chips. I loved it, but have I continued for more than those nine months I would have been huge. My question is: How come many American students are not fatter given the style of food being offered?

Greece will go down the ranks quite quick following recent economical meltdown.
