We've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes. The site load speed was already under 1/2 of what Huddler's was, on average, and we installed cloudflare, which means that the site should be even faster. A ton more will go on in the weeks and months to come, and some things will be more visibile, and some less.

Why are A. Testoni prices out of whack?

I've noticed over the past few years that the once semi affordable A. Testoni shoes have increased in price o the point that their prices just don't make any sense. Their Black Label line can cost over $1,500. I bought a pair of those in a Nordstrom Rack around 8 years ago for under $100.

Does anyone know their prices have gone up so much?

I remember seeing them at The Rack a couple years ago in the $100-$200 range. It looks like they have a few pairs on their site rifht now marked down to $300 from $700.
Has the quality gotten better to justify the price increase or did they just inflate the price for when it goes on sale?

10 years ago they made very good shoes and most were priced $800 to over $1500. Maybe they decided to stop making junk and return to making high end footwear?

Perhaps, although they now have Testoni Basic for their crap offering. I understand if the quality is higher now they will charge more, but their prices are in the John Lobb range ($1500). Their old stuff seemed really nice, but retailed between $400-$600.

I'm curious if anyone from the forum can comment on a recent purchase.

I purchased these back in 2008 for $130 at Nordstrom Rack:

I bought a pair of these a couple years ago for around $1200 that had a MSRP of $2100 they were great they came with a nice bag, were made in Italy, had the a.testoni mark embossed on the sole and heal. Loved those shoes., last week my girlfriendI saw some an advert for a testoni shoes online at 6 pm and ordered me a pair as she thought it was a decent deal. They were about $240 marked down from $550 or so. What showed could barely be considered a shoe in comparison. The box said testoni basic no a and the made in stamp said Romania (regardless of the advertising saying Italian made) the quality in stiching and leather are grossly inferior. I took them out of the box took one look and sent them back. It's as though the shoe company I admired decided to make a special lower quality shoe for places like Target Walmart and rackroom. Needless to say be verily wary when ordering this line of shoe.

Not necessarily to bump an old thread, but I wouldn't use Nordstrom Rack price as a barometer to track MSRP. Also most of the Black Label shoes now carry and MSRP north of $800.

Maybe they are now better known than 10 years ago? But their prices are very similar to those of Ferragamo (which they likely compete against head to head primarily), and I think both are in line.

The trick is to look at whatever is being sold on Gilt, 6pm, and also Amazon if you want to look for better prices. Recently I got a pair of main line (not black label) calfskin derbies for about $130 plus tax on Amazon. Deals can still be found.

Thanks! You really dug to find this one :)

Sierra Trading Post recently got in a number of A Testoni Mainline shoes and are selling them for a decent price with the deal flyer discount.

My beef with Testoni is, like Ferragamo, they seem to be charging way more than the true value of the shoes. Both of these companies used to be available for reasonable prices on sale about 10 years ago, but now $350 for a pair of drivers is supposed to be a steal, which is a joke. But then again, Ferragamo sells their obnoxious belts for $400 and people seem to love them.

Probably brand recognition, which the likes of John Lobb won't have. Put it this way ... I know about A Testoni when I was a kid because of their boutique in a mall that I used to go to with my parents. Ferragamo has much stronger brand recognition. I only know about John Lobb ever since I researched shoes on this forum about 2 years ago.

My gut feeling on the price increases are:
    - Increased awareness of the brand with newer markets (i.e. China)
    - They will increase prices but sales continue to remain level or trend upwards (Chanel, Rolex, and Louis Vuitton are very good at this)
    -- Basically, because they can

Others in the trade may know better.

FWIW I will check out STP. :D

    That sounds about right.

Keep in mind on STP that it's mainline A Testoni so keep you're expectations low. It's not Testoni Basic, but it's not the Black Label either.
