Whose shoes are these? How did you get them to look like this? This is the essence of Cordovan??

Sorry for the random post, but I was browsing some really old thread and came across this picture. I believe these are Ralph Lauren Marlows in dark brown cordovan?

Such beautiful! Very wow!! Much jealous!!!

I have just started my own journey into Cordovan, and I know there are no shortcuts, but how do I get my shoes to look like this? Did the shoes start out dark brown everywhere, and then lighten up in the vamps and quarters naturally over time? Or was it the other way around? Did the shoes start out in a lighter medium brown, with the toe box and brogue areas darkening over time?

I am looking for a pair of brown shell cordovans, and I want to make sure I choose the right starting point to get eventually get to shoes like these. Dark brown cordovan that lightens? Or Medium brown cordovan that darkens? I understand that shoes are the canvas, and it is an art that takes time and patience. But I'd like to make sure my starting point and my expectations are realistic

A link to the thread would be helpful if you are really interested in who owns them and how they accomplished that look.

Here is the thread. It's a really old post by Mr. Moo, who hasn't been active since the beginning of the year. Actually, this isn't the thread where I first saw these shoes, but I did a search on google for "brown cordovan marlow" and I instantly recognized the picture. I see from this thread that the shoe were originally dark brown. So then I suppose it is mostly sunlight and brushing that gets them to this state over time? How to darken the areas with brogue?
