Mischa Barton. Not really sure who she is,but her face(and skinny body) seem to be in a lot of magazines.
    Sarah Jessica Parker.
    Eva Longoria.
    Naomi Campbell.
    Kiera Knightley.

I will dissent on Miss Knightley, who presents nothing over which to complain.

Kind of funny how many of us believe that a celeb's purported personality or what we think of an actress's roles/performances has bearing on her looks.

Like everyone else on the planet, I think Paris Hilton is a loathesome twit. But she is undeniably good looking. If she weren't no one would pay her the slightest attention.

A friend of mine in the haute couture business told me that a few years back, when Paris was beginning her "career," she was invited to model clothes on those catwalk shows designers use to introduce their new fall and spring lines.

It took perhaps three shows for designers to pick up that Paris had some special quality that caused people to notice her. If newspapers ran pictures of models strutting down the catwalk, the model they chose was Paris. Designers immediately dressed Paris in their best dress, the one they had highest hopes for -- putting her in that dress was their way of generating free advertising.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

The difference between who men think is good looking and who women like is interesting. Most men don't think Kristin Dunst is all that special. But I know so many women who think she is drop dead gorgeous. And I know no women who think Pamela Anderson is attractive -- while acknowledging that her looks get a lot of male attention.

When I lived in Santa Monica, I saw lots of famous actors and actresses. Many are nothing special in real life -- Courtney Cox doesn't merit a second look. Others are utterly stunning -- nothing like standing next to Michelle Pfeiffer in the checkout line at the Pavilion on Montana Avenue, thinking I was about to suffer heart failure from being overcome by the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen.

    Sarah Jessica Parker - 5' 4"
    Eva Longoria - 5' 2"
    Naomi Campbell - 5' 9½"
    Kiera Knightley - 5' 7"
    Jessica Simpson - 5' 3½"
    Kirsten Dunst - 5' 7"
    Salma Hayek - 5' 2"

The only one who has ok height is Naomi, and maybe Kiera and Kirsten. All the other ones are incredibly short. (and btw, these heights taken from IMDB are probably also pumped-up)

Some women look good in magazines, and maybe in movies playing with Tom Cruise.

My favorite sex bomb is Gisele Bündchen [IMG] seconded my Heidi.

In any case, I think for a woman to be universally attractive on the screen, she'd have to have a wonderful well polished voice, a skill lost since Audrey Hepburn died.

Not like there has to be a universal standard, but even as a taller-than-average guy it's hard to think of 5'7" as "incredibly short" for a woman. But maybe that's because if I suggested otherwise my 5'7" mom and 5'6" wife would kick my ass.

Since you brought it up, I don't get all the genuflection over the late Miss Hepburn as a screen personality. She was not unattractive, but with all due respect, I don't see the great transcendant beauty that others do. Too thin and waiflike, and more importantly, far too annoyingly girlish in demeanor. And her "well-polished voice" grates on me. But I can only comment on her on-screen persona -- I understand she was a really lovely woman.

I guess I heard just the opposite (not that it really matters). A teacher of mine (former designer) was told to avoid Paris and her friends. My old instructer said they would show up at his (and other designers) showrooms and pest them about modeling for them. They'd take the clothing and were all around annoyances. It got to the point where he wouldn't let them in his showroom.

This is where I have to disagree. Transcendent is one of the few words I can think of to sum up Audrey Hepburn.

Heh, well I guess I just don't get it, then. I've seen Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Children's Hour, Roman Holiday, Charade and My Fair Lady, so if I were gonna see it, I'd probably have seen it by now. In fairness, she's certainly beautiful enough that if I found her personality appealing, or if I found her at all 'womanly' on screen, I'd probably be smitten for life. But between the voice and the girlishness... just doesn't do it for me. [IMG]

I think Jennifer Biel is one of the most underrated (in terms of guys like us lusting after starlets) hotties....I saw her once in a store in Santa Monica and you couldnt stop looking at her, she had that *something* that makes you notice.

She also has an ass that won't quit. She needs her own thread instead of Jessica Alba.

If this were the CE forum, we could argue about this for ten pages and I'd end up calling you a (fascist) chubby chaser, and you'd end up calling me a (commie) closet pedophile... but this being General Chat, I guess we can both agree that there's no accounting for taste. [IMG]

The real question is, do we both agree that Grace Kelly is pure magic?

Jessica Biel is a weird one for me. Sometimes she looks stunning, and other times she looks like an NFL running back. And there's almost no inbetween. I think it has a lot to do with her makeup/hair/clothes.

Of the Princess' films, I've only seen 'High Society', and that was far too long ago for me to offer an opinion. I've been meaning to check out 'To Catch A Thief' anyway, so I'll add that and High Society to my netflix queue and get back to you sometime. Though not a "classic beauty", I think Jessica Biel is delicious, and fantastically slutty-hot, with that wickedly athletic bod. I think Monica Bellucci comes closer than any actress I know of to being universally regarded as a goddess.

There are several reasons for the petite stature of many actresses. One is that the same hormone (estrogen) that makes the female body develop also limits its growth.

If you want to see what specifically it is about Scarlett Johannson's appearance that men like, compare her with Regina Spektor.

Of course, this thread is from a men's perspective. In rating other women's attractiveness (and supporting the "overrated" with their attention and money), women tend to place more importance on a slender build.

DEFINITELY agree about Eva Longoria! She's nothing special and she has no chin, great body though. WHo brought up WILLA FORD!?!?! I haven't heard that name in 6 years, lol (I wanna be bad...). She's was definitely poor man's Britney (after Jessica Simpson). I can't believe anyone would think Keira Knightly is overrated. I think she's perfection (looks-wise my favorite current actress)- perfect body, gorgeous face, and great style. She's the closest thing to Audrey Hepburn we've ever had, with a sexy vibe that AH didn't have.

PS- I feel compelled to mention that I'm a gay man. I've always loved looking at and being around beautiful women, just not in a sexual way (anymore).

Willa Ford is underrated, not overrated. She might have made music unworthy of critical acclaim, but her appearance basically has no flaws. "Extra" couldn't even make her ugly in the "Ugly Willa" experiment.

Ummm, she has a body that would make a pedophile twitch? [IMG] She has a pretty face but I find there is no there there when you look down. I laughed when they made her breasts bigger in poster art for that King Arthur movie she did and she still had nothing. There's lithe and then there's Knightley... But hey, I'm in love with Winona Ryder so who am I to talk?
