Does anyone know who makes the Brooks Brother's penny loafers below? Let me know if you need additional pictures.

Thanks!

They look like shell cordovan and, if so, made by Alden. Post pics of the hand-written size information inside, on the side and near the heel (I can only make out part of this in your picture of the footbed. Width markings of D/B would probably signify Alden).

Edit: I see now, it looks like it says 7 1/2 D 12712. I don't know the maker. Alden indicates heel width of "B" in addition to "D" as I indicated above, unless they marked older shoes differently.

Those are not recent. They don't look like shell cordovan to me but it is hard to tell from the photos.

Insole appears to be original and lightly worn, so the sole may be original. And that sole says "Genuine Leather".

Agreed that they are not shell. I bought them thinking I might be able to get shell at a steal, but when I got them they have slight creasing on the uppers.

Yes, it looks like the sole does say "Genuine Leather" and is quite possibly original, heel might be too.

Couldn't read the sole because of the glare captured in the photo, but since it says "Genuine Leather", then obviously it's not shell cordovan. I don't know who makes it. Current makers of Peal & Co. shoes for BB are C&J and AS, but I don't know the history, can't speculate on when that particular pair of shoes was made, and others including Church's and EG used to make shoes for BB. Someone on the forum will know, however.

There doesn't appear to be anything written on the sole. Looks like someone took a pen and scribbled in the middle of it, but still don't think anything was written there.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
