1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I think I'm getting into it. I'm not used to this level of grindyness but I guess that comes with the territory with MMORPGs.

Glad you are enjoying Rift so far, but "Grindyness?"

As far as MMOs go, this is as anti-grind as I've seen yet.

Granted, I've only experienced several years of EQ1 and then a couple months of WoW, but the lack of grinding in Rift actually upsets me lol. I'd like it to take MUCH MUCH longer to get to level 50, and in my opinion, level 50 should only be achievable through various grouping experiences, such as group quests and maybe a few dungeons.

I also much prefer needing to group up to gain experience. Sure soloing is nice when you have limited play time, but this is a MMO. An MMO means you should be interacting with other people at all times. The nature of Rift and almost every other MMO today really takes a lot of that away, sadly.

Compared to other MMOs, Rift is child's play in terms of grinding, but for people who aren't used to playing MMOs I can see how it would seem like a grindfest.

You know what's sad? The other day I joined a faction raid in Stillmoor to build up Mathos rep. I saw the items you could buy with very high rep and they were epic items with very nice stats. But then I asked a question about this loot and was quickly told that at level 50, doing dungeons in T1 and T2 would rapidly gear me far beyond the stats on the Mathos rep gear. This is frustrating. Because the Mathos rep is an extremely long grind to build up the rep, and to hear that the rewards are so easily eclispe-able is disappointing.

DamnyouRift!! You had a good strategy here, but make the time really worth the reward!

    I played for a while.

Then, after being away for about a week, I came back. Checked my quest log to see what I was up to.

It was all "kill 12 monsters" "bring back 10 whatevers" etc. etc.

Quests are kind of boring and repetitive. If I had friends playing, I'd probably enjoy it, but it ran out of interest for me playing mostly solo.

Exactly. I wish I had friends taht played so we could run the xpert dungeons and rifts together. It would definitely make the game more enjoyable, of course that holds true for any game

Is anyone else here playing Rift? I'm looking for a slightly better server to transfer to since mine is medium to low population (Greybriar). I'm in the Guardian faction as well.

With the release of patch 1.4, the game is definitely picking up speed, and there is quite a bit to do, compared to my initial assessment of how the game would evolve...

Played it for a couple of weeks, maybe three. Reached lvl 50, rank 4 in PvP I think. After that I went on holidays and didn't play since. Account expired a couple of days ago. Game wasn't bad but all in all it wasn't exciting enough. I'm really looking forward to SW:TOR as I've received the beta invite (as nearly everyone else) for next week's weekend. Hope the PvP will be good! Would love to play now, but buying a full beta account seems kind of stupid, especially now with less than a month to go. Will anyone else here play SW:TOR/played the beta?

By the way, you mostly do the Mathos rep farming for the mount, at least nowadays.

Well I cancelled my Rift subscription yesterday. I played probably a total of 750 hours. Reached level 50, made it all the way through the endgame zone to Akylios (the last boss) and had some of the best raid gear in the game, not to mention a full set of Rank 8 PvP gear.

It was fun, but the usual grinding of a raid-schedule was too much for me to endure ....

I'd still recommend Rift for those looking for a good MMO

I tried SWTOR beta, but cancelled my order for the game. Just don't think it will be a good game at all... more hype than anything

But if anyone has something different to say, who's tried both Rift and SWTOR, let me know what you think
